Hey yeall mayby a dumb question but would early 80s f150 single cab body parts be interchangeable with 82 single cab f250 body parts ? Also would there be any hope of finding a matching Danna 44 front axel for my f250 in an f150 ?

For sure on the body parts. I am not a 4x4 guy but I was thinking all the ttbs's were the same. Leaf vs coil perhaps though. Someone will confirm/deny that for you though.

Hey, you might hit a wider audience here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum231/
I'd also mention if you want to stick with the 80-86 style or if you don't care and would accept the next gen.

Do your homework on the 4x4 stuff; all TTBs are of the same operational design but there are lighter-duty & heavier-duty variants, and the unique parts separating them all are different in size & design sometimes.

Hey, think that was a different fellow from a year ago on the 4x4 question. Good to know though - the trucks I gravitate towards are generally 2wd so limited exposure.

Heh... sometimes I just talk out to the general community, especially when one of these old threads gets woken up again and I've forgotten the details by now.

But having this kind of information in the archives for the people gere via the Google searches is a Good Thing.

Hi,

I have a 1981 F100 2wd that has a bent frame. I want to put the cab/front nose from the 81 on my 1987 f250 4x4 frame. Both are standard cab. The f100 is a short bed, the f250 is a long bed. I’ve seen a bunch of info on this thread about newer cabs on older frames, but not as much on older cabs on newer frames. Will everything mount up?

thanks in advance.

UH, welcome to FTE.
I think there was a post on this not long ago, last week maybe?
Any way IIRC the cab & front clip (nose) of the 81 should bolt to the 87 frame but ......... the bumper will not.
If you look at the front frame parts they are different so the bumpers will not swap.
Now someone said you could cut the ends off each frame and weld them on the other frame.
As for the bed part the change is all behind the cabs between the 2.

I found a nice 86, with title, in NC. No front clip, engine or transmission. Took the cab mounting bolts out, disconnected brake lines, steering column. Jacked the cab up high enough to pull the frame out from under the cab. Set the cab back down on a trailer, for later installation on a 4x4 frame. Now the cab has a NY title.

Thanks FuzzFace2 and GLR!

I’ll probably make a custom front bumper. Can I use the 87 f250 steering column with the 81 cab and interior? The 81 column has issues.

My other thought was to do a crown Vic frame swap on the 81 f100...

Custom front bumper would work.
I dint think the columns swap because the dash & frames are different. Give a quick look when the column bolts to the dash frame think you can see the difference.

Now I like the CV frame swap to the 81 body. Look up member Monkey1 I think it is as he has don't this swap to our year truck and the 70's.
If you do a Youtube search on this you will find this can be done a few different ways. I think the easy way is frame for frame.
Harder is use the frame, floor & fire wall / dash of the CV and cut the floor & fire wall out of the F100. You then have the fire wall & dash of the CV in the cab of the F100.
