Power steering issues

So I replaced the power steering pump on an 01 f150 with a 4.6. The problem I'm having is it seems like the pump is not working at all. To bleed the air out of the system I removed the reservoir return line and ran it to a bucket, I plugged the the fitting on the bottom of the reservoir to keep it holding fluid. I had my wife crank the truck and work the wheel from lock to lock. It spit out a little fluid then stopped. Shouldn't it be a steady stream out of the hose or am I doing this all wrong?

Reconnect the line(s) fill, start, turn wheel back and forth, take for drive -- have extra p/s fluid handy.

What do you mean by the pump not working at all? If the pump is not spinning at all, you didn't put it together right. Air in the system has nothing to do with it not running. If pump spins, do the above post.

What I mean by "not working at all" is the pump wasn't working at all. But it could have been because I'm a huge jackass and over looked the dust cap inside the reservoir inlet fitting on the pump, so the pump wasnt getting any fluid. I pulled the one out of the pressure fitting because obviously the fitting wont screw in with that plug in it. But apparently the plug in the reservoir inlet on the pump was inserted before the pump was painted so it was black as well, haha. Basically what I'm saying is I got into a hurry and performed a jackass maneuver.
