I had a guy offer to buy my 66 a few minutes ago for a good bit of profit. I just have to register it first, and do a tune up.

I personally think he is full of it, but incase he is not how many mpgs will a 2011 F250 CCSB 4x4 get?

My wife who heard the conversation said I should get a 4x4, and I know if I go newish it will have to be a CC to be ok.

I have experience with GM's through friends and such, but none with any modern Fords.

I know the 5.4 is a under powered hog but isn't the 6.2 supposed to cure those issues?

 

The 6.2 cures the underpowered part but not the mileage.

I'm averaging between 11 and 13 around town, and if I stay around 60 on the highway I might see 17. Driving 75 I'm back down to 14-15. Those are real world numbers after 4000 miles.

You're gonna have guys tell you 15 around town and 20 on the highway. Those guys are just inflating numbers to make themselves feel better. Those might be achievable numbers with the 6.7, but not the 6.2.

I haven't towed far enough to get any real numbers, but I'd expect 7-9 pulling the 7500# camper.

 

He's right. The power relative to the 5.4. which I am able to compare personally, is significantllay greater. The milage: plowing: my 2008 5.4 always said 7.8. 2011 says 11. So, net gain all around, seems to be 3mpg. Don't buy for MPGS. I think Ford has better interior design. I prefer Ford exterior too. The dash 4.5" readout screen is very nice. I grew-up in a GM dealership. Now, I prefer Ford. Although, realize, there is no history on Ford built motors! So, if you don't prefer Ford, other than the dash readout, it's going to be a leap of faith, so to speak. We are really all buying 2011s based on Ford's reputation. Iv'e driven a Ford Escape and Mutang as rentals each, for a couple weeks. I like Fords. Good cars/trucks. I have a Lariat supercab and love it. Take em all for a test drive. And, the one that you can get the most value for and the least $ is the one! Look at the 2010 F150s. I hear you can get $10,000 plus off MSRP.

PS: Buy Ford stock. Within days, you qualify for X-plan pricing which equals invoice plus rebates! That alone should be worth buying a Ford!

 

As far as mpgs, with a 4.3 rear I got almost 14mpg mostly highway with some steep hills thrown in, not shy with the pedal. Not bad.

 

My dads 2011 gets about 13 around town and 17 on highway, when he tows his boat he gets about 8...

I could live with 13-17, but like I said I think the guy is full of it. So I'll see.

I always wanted a 4x4, my wifes likes them, we could use a CC, and only Ford offers the straight axle. I don't think IFS is good for 4x4's. Although it would suit more then my needs I would just end up trail riding like I have done in 2wd's.

The one thing I have noticed from friends and such is there is really no mpg benefit in a 1/2 vs 3/4 ton 4x4. Thats why I would go 3/4 ton. I would only do a leveling kit, Nitto Dune grapplers, and a few bolt-ons

 

Well actually Dodge also has a straight front axle !,,,Not sure about there 1500's?
F-150's are Independent front axle !

I also have/like the SuperDuty's,,,If I was to buy another New truck,,,It would also be a 2011 F-350 CC, S-Bed, 4:30's w/6.2 gas,w/manual Hubs and transfere case,(Not ESOF),,should be a Great towing,and Dependable truck !!

 

I get a little less mileage than some - about what the others say but less. Mostly because I got bigger tires, heavy bumpers, tool box with plenty of gear/tools in it. I have kept mileage records since mine was new & see the mileage drop according to the weight that I "add-on" - but that is the way I roll. I also tend to drive same roads a lot and notice the headwind/tailwind deal can account for about 1 mpg.
Also I tend to push the speed limit & here that tends to be 70-80 which of course will effect the economy..

 

Dodge 2500 and up has staight axle under the front on 4 wheel drives. 1500 Dodge has IFS just like Ford. Ford SD is the only manufacturer to offer manual transfer case and manual locking hubs on 4x4 in SD line. GM and Dodge have a similar setup as the F150 on all of their 4x4's.

 

How does that work? I would by stock in a heart beat if I got x-plan. Do they send you something after you buy it to get the "pin" number?

I didn't think that Ford was offering manual shift transfer cases anymore? I don't recall seeing that option when I built my 2011 F-250 or else I would have got the manual. I always feel better when I can "feel" the gears going into place instead of some module doing it -- sometimes.

 

I have heard that you have to own the stock for like 3-6 months - but may be wrong.. I wished I have known - I have owned some since they were at $3...

 

Manual shifting transfer case and manual locking hubs aren't an option on 4x4 SD's, they are standard. But the SD's still have the same Mickey Mouse front wheel bearing set up as the rest, stacked instead of true inner and outer wheel bearings like were on the 97 and older SD's. So with some higher mileage SD's, the "death wobble" can and will still happen.
