I have 4.10 gears and 4x4. It seems to work good with towing. Around town mileage is around 11-12. towing is less-9-10. I am not sure on highway without trailer on.

HELLO - SKI V-10
SARG5 FROM KANSAS here.

I have a new, 2010 F-350 Dule, long bed, crew cab, with V-10. I just found this Thread. I chose you because of your RV picture.
I have owned a 1996 Ford F-350 7.3 diesel for 176,000 miles.
My problem with the new V-10 is the fuel milage. I only have 1600 miles on it at this time, I am pulling a 32 foot 5th wheel, 11,000 lbs empty. I also pull a 20 foot boat behind a lot. [DO NOT TALK ABOUT THE LENGTH]
Empty I am getting about 9.2 to 10.2. Loaded, pulling only the Trl. I was getting 6.2Mpg. BAD.
Is this about what I can expect? If so bummer.
I see by some of the other threads, they are talking about
LUCAS OIL FUEL SYSTEM -- What is this
V-10 Tuner?
5Star tuner???
Bulldog Tuner
What can you tell me about the above. Assume that one must be out of warranty before installing.
PS. I drive with the load about 60/63 MPH max. I am retired, If I do not get there today, will tomorrow.

Open highway, only a few stops . I sure was thinking that better millage on this motor.
I do know how to drive to get the best fuel milage. Many miles pulling all kinds of RV trailers.
I keep the speed about 60/63 on GOOD roads and GOOD weather,

You mean 4.10 gears.

If you look at this thread and the last post it will show the the cost of the v10 for 2010 for me and if you browse the thread it will give the mpg for others, but my would be the only 3v in the thread like yours also I have 4.30 gears. It does seem you mileage is low.

I honestly don't think 6.2 mpg is all that bad. Were talking about 11k, a boat and a huge frontal area holding that thing back. 4.10 Might not be quite steep enough for your application. You may want to look into gearing with a bit more oomph such as a 4.56 or 4.88.

What kind of mileage were you getting with the 7.3 pulling that load? I cant imagine it was much more.

SARG5,
Mine is a 3v with 4.10 gears and I pull 9 to 10K 5ver. My mileage is about 9-10. I have a SC with short bed. The extra boat may drag it down. Around town I get 10 to 12 depending on the weather (winter as oposed to summer). If I read your post right you have a dually with a long bed-that is a bigger truck than mine. Give the motor a chance to break in-it may go up. How does it pull in comparison to your old 7.3?

V-10

My 1996 Ford, 350,long bed, dule, crew cab. 7.3 pulling the same load and empty.
Empty -- 11/12
With 5th wheel only- 8/9
With boat & 5th wheel - 7/8

Then came the winds, etc, etc. But the above was about average.

If your 7.3 diesel got 7-8mpg pulling the same load, then I thing your current mileage with the V10 is about right. A diesel will always get better mileage.

But is that really a big deal? Diesel fuel is so much more expensive, I bet your total fuel costs are pretty close.

Sarge- your numbers ALL seem low but all proprtional. The V10 will surely get 20% less mpg than a diesel (more or less), the D just has more energy in the fuel per gallon, but then it also costs more per gallon.

Are you calculating your MPG by hand? Filling the tank full each time then dividing how much fuel it took to fill it by the number of miles you drove since the last fill up? Just curious since the number all look proportionally good but skewed low.

SARG5 HERE AGAIN
I know it is early on with this truck. No. on calculating by hand. Going by the MPG from the gage. Knowing that this may not be the actual mpg. I only have 1600 miles on the truck.
I have several long trips planed in the near future. By the time I get back will know for sure what the actual mpg is.
ONE QUESTION HAS NOT BEEN ANSWERED.
These TUNERS. I assume that one CANNOT put them in while still under waranty!!??
Do the do that much good!!??
What is the cost of them ?? Will they pay off??
AGAIN
I do not care about more power
I do not care about more Speed

I JUST WOULD LIKE TO SEE BETTER MPG

You probably won't get any better MPGs with a tuner, so that's out. Warranty-wise, if they find the tune, and you blew the motor, then yes, warranty is void. But you can "return to stock" before the dealer looks at it and it should be fine. SHOULD being the operative word.
