Are you guys really having problems with overheating, or just going for prevention?

The reason I ask, is because I have a 466ci BBF in my F150, using the stock 351m radiator and mechanical fan, and it never gets over 160*F

For the most part the cooling system in my truck was working fine. When the temp were getting up into 100 degree mark things were running to hot for my taste . So I put the radiator an T-bird electric fan in . The T-Bird fan moves a lot more air than the mechanical fan ever did. I also run with a plow in the winter time so the fan helps keeping the air moving with the blade up running down the road. The reason I did this modification was to upgrade the cooling system an it has been working perfect . The cost factor also played a part in doing this . My radiator was the biggest expense . The rest was from wrecking yards an the parts store. This is a very cost effective upgrade.

My mechanical fan worked perfectly fine too, but I did a serpentine belt swap with the accessories and just thought the electric fan was the easiest and best way to go.

I did the swap just because, and I am doing it on my 87 Ranger for the same reason... Just because.

I really like this set-up, my only question is what size relays are you using?
Thanks

Here's a write up on Taurus/Mark VIII fans. They also offer a pre-made wiring kit with 60A relays.. $70:

What temp does your radiator get now?

Mine in my 79 reads around 100-115 while driving. Usually would be up around 190 but since I put antifreeze in it it hasnt unless my guage is messed up.

I have a huge *** radiator and one of them flex fans.

It had been running at 190ish till the fan shroud started falling apart, after that it started running 230-240 at idle. That was in North Carolina tho, hadn't run it in this Texas heat during the summer.

I'm using factory Taurus relays. The one that runs the low setting is from an SHO (mounted to the core support) and the one that kicks the Solenoid on for the high setting is just one I pulled from a fuse block of a regular Taurus.

Yeah, that makes a little more sense. After reading through this thread, I was scratching my head thinking "there's got to be an easier way than buying those stupid relays...".

The Taurus had to run its own fan somehow

Cool, I did get the one from the fuse block, now just got to go back and get the other one.
Thanks
