I'd like to have an old 3/4 or 1 ton DRW for towing trailers, but that would mean another yard art candidate, lol. I'll throw in a couple pics that show off the DRW, as opposed to a big truck that happens to have a DRW.

All of these are special in thier own way and unique in the different versions out there. I love big trucks but it is just not possible for me to have one right now. Maybe someday. Keep the pictures coming of all trucks with DRWs as that is my favorite.

Yeah he does.

Stu, I'm looking at that '56 you posted, and I'm thinking I could see myself doing something like that. I've been researching how to make my '78 F150 4x4 better for towing, but have been reconsidering if I can find an old F350 with a 9 foot bed, and make it a duallie hauler. Hmmm, the wheels are turning.....all 6 of 'em.

I need to finish my assessment of everything else first, though.

You know I'm sure that the '53-'56 F-350 with the 9" Express bed was single rear wheel only. The cab/chassis and flat bed were the DRW models. So you'd be looking to widen fenders, and since they used 6 x 7.25 pattern DRWs and hubs you'd maybe be best to start with a DRW flat bed then find an express bed to put on it. The wheel base of both should be that same 130". Changing the rear to a later D60 makes sense and would be straight forward, but finding one with a good gear ratio and 6 x 7.25" pattern gets hard. Unless you don't worry about matching front and rear bolt patterns. Stu

If I ever did, I don't think much would be stock except the cab and front clip. The 9 foot bed would have wider fenders, Dana 60, 8 lug F250 modern wheels and brakes front and rear, 5sp. OD, modern engine, etc...

I've got plenty of trucks already, but none of them are really set up for towing a 5th wheel, and that's kind of the whole point of my wanting a truck. That and to replace the Bronco's plow duties. The F1, F6, and IH KB2's aren't set up for towing such a load across country. I'm at a fork in the road, so to speak, as to what I want, what I need, and what I can afford. Plus where am I going to park them all?

Who was it said, "When you come to the fork in the road, take it."? Sounds like a Yogi Berra quote, but I don't know for sure.

I've had similar debates with myself, like I guess we all have. I've got all the stuff to make one of my '51 F-3 2WDs into a M-H Express bed dually. Wider fenders, etc. Those IHC and Studebaker pics one of the guys posted early in this thread have been burned into my brain for a while. Stu
