Just following up on an item for a friend. He has a 2005 F250 with the 6.0 Diesel. Over the past month it has been progressively harder to start when it was warm. (starts fine in the morning or at the end of the day when it was cold) He took it to the dealer and they diagnosed it as low oil pressure with the corrective action being the replacement of the high pressure oil pump. Long story short (and $1600 later) when he got the truck back it was doing better but still seemed not right. Bled air from the fuel system and all seems okay. Has anyone else had this "Bad High Pressure Oil Pump" diagnosis? Seems a little strange but I can say I am an expert (I have a 2000 F250 w/V10).

I didn't know the HPOP itself was a common issue? The STC fitting on the 05's HPOP was a common issue though.

 

The HPOP has been a problem, and so has the fitting that holds the oil line in place. It is not as common as the EGR Cooler. STC fitting how many times did ford revisit that one.

 

hmm we dont do many 05+ up pumps at all.

 

were the 03 and 04 HPOP's problematic cheezit? I'm still running the original on my truck with 263k km's on it, early 03.

 

we see more of them then the later style thats for sure. still not many of them either.

 

A LOT of HPOP's are replaced unnecessarily simply because of the STC fitting failure and incorrect diagnosis OR a tech too lazy to properly diagnosis the problem. I've never seen any discussion that the later HPOP's were a problem....more like virtually bulletproof.

 

No one has mentioned the oil rail plugs. That was my problem with hard warm starts. $45 later and a few hours of work good to go.

 

Did you just replace the plugs?

 

you can nolonger get just the o-rings. so yes you most replace the plugs.

 

Found that out yesterday, $106 later.
