Update..Porting The Exhaust Manifold
Hey forumsters...I finished the install of my modified exhaust manifolds, and here's what I can say about the effect.......
I have enough left material left to make up a few kits.
shoot me an e-mail if intrested.
- Less pedal.
- Spools up noticabley quicker.
- increased acceleration.
- improved almost clock like idle.
- very good reduction 50% ? in underhood temp.
- Increased fuel economy at 45 mph or better(1.5 to 2 mpg).

Nice rez..... I am just a back yard geekologist interested in all science and some art. Nothing formal to speak of. A hi-tech raider willing to seek from angles and vantage points forbidden , discouraged or just plain omitted from most higher education. Grammatically challenged and terrible at spelling. Any thoughts on my mod/fix?

I think I have somewhat of an understanding of how that all worked.
I'll have to read more. This is the first time I've heard of porting.
But .... They look awesome!!! If I had the cash I'd do it just for the looks!!
I've always hated the way some of the parts under the hood can look so crap and rusted, almost like they're ready to fall of the truck.
How much did that cost by the way? Curious minds ...

I did the porting myself. Cost broke down like t'his.
Milled Flanges $60-
Material $75- excluding the artwork charge for laser cutting gaskets.
Ceramic coating manifolds $140-
HD Y pipe from Elitedeiselengineering ceramic coated by them $360-.
Total ..ouch! $635-
I beleive just porting and ceramic coating along with sealing will give same effeict cheaper.
The porting and sealing kit I will have on E-bay by the weekend.
At $99- for the kit and someone in your location ceramic coating the manifolds for around $140.. your total should be around $240..... I will add a pic of the kit to this post later....

Personally, I think it's a cool mod and looks really good. I read your other post to get the back story. I'd have a real hard time attributing all of the 'gains' you posted to that mod though. See the very best porting jobs and I'm talking the NASCAR $50,000 type porting see a maximum of 15% (some say more but they don't have a flow bench). This type of porting is done on a flow bench, goes from the carb/intake all the way to the exhaust and is super detailed. You're saying you got ~12% more MPG without all that. See the problem there. Really, I think this mod is cool and the under-hood temps are guaranteed to be lower however some of the specs you laid out can't be attributed to that mod, but you said that already so we're really just agreeing.
One thing you didn't take into account however, is that by coating your exhaust you're not only keeping the under-hood temps down but you also raising the exhaust temps which actually does improve flow but not by much and it looks sweet so point for that as well!
P.S. I feel bad for your table!

Yes ...Containing and limiting Thermal Dynamic energy loss does come into play...was aware but chose not to bark about it. Also..I was leaking so badly that by virtue of a damn near Hermetic seal I beleive I'm really hooking up with that turbo now...a few extra percentiles there!!.......
Yeah, now you're talking!! If you fixed a leak in the process you could easily be seeing the improvements you listed. Awesome!
