The tires on the front are P225/75R15

I'm thinking about changing to taller tires to give me better highway gearing (or at least simulate better gearing).

 

the tires are part of your steering problem. I have found that the 7.00X15 in bias or a radial work great for the armstrong steering. my 11 year old can turn it in the driveway. The tires you have on have a larger footprint the sidewalls are not as stiff and they have more rolling resistance than the stock tires.

so.....what would be a good modern tire size designation equivalent to a 7.00 x 15....from what I've found from searching the web, the 225/75R15 are a pretty close approximation. Would a 205 be a closer match?

 

yokahama has a radial 7.00X15 RY215 this a a highway tread. the tire rack advertises a radial traction from them as well. I am running the bias version. To answer your question though the 205 x75 x15 is a closer match in width but the 235 X 75 x 15 is closer in height. If you were going to either of these two I would stick to the Lt versions. Either one will make the truck harder to steer than the 7.00 X 15. I do not have any trouble getting the Bias ply tire and have been running them for years even in the summer at speeds of 75 and 80. The local tire stores all can get them. If I wanted to run a radial there is a ST 700x15 out there as well.

 

We finally got a good rain here in the Houston area....the first real rain since I bought my truck.

And wow....I knew my windshield gasket was old, but wow....I didn't know a windshield could leak water like that!! At highway speed, it was like taking shower in there!

Gotta get that rubber replaced.

 

i just had mine replaced. ordered the one from Dennis carpenter the shop here said it was a lot better than what they could get.

Mine is definitely the non-stainless trim version.....need to get that ordered from DC

 

I called my local Safelite Auto Glass and they told me it would be $250 to replace the seal, (using their seal) It would be $375 if they replaced the glass they would also not guarantee they would not break the glass getting it out and back in. I have decided to wait until I can replace the glass also. Mine is not broken, but it is pitted.

 

Fortunately, there is a local glass shop here that's been in business for several decades and don't play those sorts of games about not gauranteeing glass if they break it.

I'm thinking about doing the back glass myself.

 

My truck came with a new bottle of Meguiar's Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner under the front seat and I finally got around to using it on the fairly oxidized paint on my 66.

I was amazed at how it woke up that 45 year old paint....it really looks super now.

Of course, the paint is rubbed through in a few spots but that just adds to the looks of the truck in my humble opinion.

I plan on repainting the grill and headlight trim, replacing the front and rear bumpers and repainting the wheels and hubcaps and that will complete the look that I'm after.

 

I bought a set of used painted bumpers from a fellow FTE member last month and installed the front bumper this evening.

They're very straight, unlike the tweaked front bumper that was on my 66 when I bought it.

My rear bumper is a nasty farm/ranch hack-job type thing, whereas the one I bought is the pretty type that matches the front bumper.

Anyway....I'm amazed at how much better the front of the truck looks with the straight bumper. Too cool!!

 

The PO of my truck cracked the windshield three inches installing it, but he successfully put in a back slider and I still have the old back window. So I took the truck over to the local Mustang and glass shop here in Centralia and they put in a tinted windshield using my seal and didn't break it.

I just got a tweaked chrome front bumper to replace my dented painted one. I'm in the process of trying to get it straight and chrome fixed before I put it on the truck. I still have to buy stainless bolts. I'm looking forward to seeing a picture of your slick now that you have shined her up and put new bumpers on.

I had a 66 shorty while I was in high school, I worked on that ride all the time and enjoyed it alot , then life began and had to tend to more important things, now that I have time again I stumbled onto to a 64 f100 longed 292 y-block with 4 on the floor, I'm going to have a real good time working on her reliving my younger years, have fun.

 

I'm selling this 66 shorty if anyone's interested. $5000.

This thread does a pretty good job of describing the truck.

I'm the second owner, it's an all original (including the paint), Oklahoma truck. When they're in original paint like this one, they can't hide their flaws.

This one has rust in the cab supports that are under the doors, but only about half of those supports are toast.

The rest of the truck is solid.....no rust in the bed.

The 240 needs a new oil pan gasket and is leaking oil from there, but otherwise runs super. I take it out on the interstate all the time running 70.
