New to C6, wires near the shift linkage?

I picked up a 75' crewcab with a seized 460/c6.

I then went and picked up a 81' 460/c6 out of a running RV.

When we pulled it, we pulled the wiring harness with it, there is some wiring headed to the tranny going in right by the shifter.

The old C6 that came out had nothing like this.

Is this some sort of neutral lock or something like that?

When I put the motor back in it will be sans smog and lots of other stuff.

Can I cap these tranny wires? Maybe solder them together?

Thanks for any input or advise.

Blair

There are no wires that have anything to do with the operation of the trans. However the wires you refer to are probably for the neutral safety switch and backup lights on the original installation. If you don`t need them don`t use them.

Great, thanks for the info. I was hoping it was not something critical.

NSS and backup lights might could be critical, especially the NSS....

I'm going to go with non critical if the previous owner didn't have them wired up. At least for the NSS.

Not sure what he did for the reverse lights, but this truck was on the road and legal until couple years ago, I'm hoping he tapped in the harness elsewhere.

Sometimes the NSS is in the steering column, but either way, you really need a NSS.

Backup lights--having them on a switch, while illegal here, is pretty handy. I had them that way on my '65 as the switch for the Hurst shifter looked like a pita.

The NSS just prevents it from starting in gear, I don't see it being a problem not having one. If you can't notice it's in gear and your starting it, you shouldn't be driving.
