OT: 1965 IH COE questions
long story short i have come across a sweet little project for myself. i dont have pics just yet but will get some asap. i came across an old IH COE that was used in Nashville, TN as a firetruck. the firetruck body has been removed and now sits as a cab and chassis.
i was wondering, do any of you might know how much this thing weighs? it is sitting on my fathers property and i want to get it somewhere i can work on it. trying to decide if i can use a 20 ton GN and haul it with my truck.

Passenger side, towards the front of the block facing outward, should be a flat surface with the engine size stamped into it. The bigger engines, such as the 549 I'm not positive if they were stamped there too, none of them were good on gas, lol. The truck looks like a V-CO-190
I would've guessed more like a 1969 or 1970, though.

Are you going to get new rims? Do you have a tire cage? I would get rid of those split rims right off the bat. It does look like fun! What are your plans for it? You can buy a used flatbed (like for towing cars) pretty cheap until you make up your mind.
Looks like you are going to have a fun summer tinkering with it!

actually i already have a bed but i am not sure what i am going to do yet. i dont have any serious plans yet. i have talked about adding some sort of sleeper or make it in to a toter or toy hauler for weekends. its all up in the air.
not sure... i really want to get the current drivetrain running first. if i end up selling the motor and tranny it will make it easier to sell knowing it runs and operates. the biggest reason i am considering a drivetrain swap is parts and maintenance. if the starter goes out or i need a new alternator, i dont wanna have to track one down special order. i have thought about the 7.3 but i dont know if i want to mess with all the electronics involved. i am really leaning towards something like the old 12v's due to the simplicity! BUT, i am certainly open to (and welcome) ANY and ALL recommendations and opinions on this!

Your plan sounds good. I agree that a mechanical 12v is probably the easiest way to go. It is no fun to have a project that is super complicated to finish and just ends up sitting there.
I just didn't want to come out of the gate with that on FTE some people are pretty sensitive about cross breeds.
