Observations about my new 11
Not sure if anyone has posted about any of this, so if it's old news, sorry to repeat.
With all of 513 miles on my truck, I have preformed my first oil change. I've been doing an early change now on my new vehicles for over 30 years. I was very pleased to see how easy it was to remove the oil filter. I prepared myself for the hassles I've experienced over the past few Ford trucks, but that was unnecessary. I am questioning Ford's design a bit on my 5.0 tho. The oil filter is located above the front cross member and has the plastic drain tray under it. This time it has 2 drain points. The main one that drains from the back side of the tray and cross member. And a front drain. Make sure you have a drain pan that is large enough to cover both points or you'll make a mess like I did. Plus, be sure to wipe down the area BEFORE you install the new filter. There's not enough room to get in there to clean the oil up. Clearly designed and approved by folks who do not do their own work. Also, FL-500S filters aren't yet available at Walmart, so expect to pay too much at the dealer.
Next observation and I here's a photo of this one. I noticed a new design to the front rotors when I was swapping the factory wheels/tires so I could see if my 07 wheels and 275/70-18 E range Silent Armours fit and what they did to the ride. I don't know if this is a new design for the 11's or if this configuration showed up on the 09 or 10's. My SA's seemed to smooth things out just a tiny bit. They did make the truck feel a little more connected to the road, but that's probably because there's .75 - 1" more tread width on the ground vs the stock Wrangler ATS's. And with the 275/70's my speedo matches my GPS. I'll be swapping over soon.
While I didn't expect them to look good, my Lariat wheels fit with out any problems.
Next if you're considering adding a Helwig rear sway bar on the 11. Don't waste your money. I did this upgrade on my 07 and removed it so I could fit a cat back exhaust. I didn't find that the bar helped with my 07 but others seem to. Regardless, don't waste your time or money because Ford has mounted a bracket with some brake line hardware in the spot where one of the Helwig mounts would go.
Last one for now. There's a label on the rear axle assembly stating "New Model, Job 2". There's no reference on my window sticker or invoice identifying my truck as a Job 2 truck. Maybe it is or maybe I just have the upgraded rear axle assembly. Either way, I find it interesting.

I noticed the same problem with the 2 drain holes in the plastic pan. I put a piece of rubber that I had leftover from my garage door. I folded it up and placed it under the pan from the rear side. This will make the oil drain to the front of the truck.
This is another "better idea" from Ford. For those that are old enough to remember the older adds.

I'm curious, are those rotors a new design or have I just be oblivious to what others have posted for the past 2 years?
Did you guys know that you can sign up for a 72 hour a 30 day or a year subscription on www.motorcraftservice.com. You can access the factory service manuals, wiring diagrams and troubleshooting stuff. I spent a few hours but I've downloaded pdf's of all of the sections for the 2011 service manual.

To the best of my knowledge, the rotors are new for 2010+, whereas the 09's and 04-08 body style had the same design. The new rotors were designed better due to complaints of massive amounts of break dust, which I had in my 07. I dont know about the 09s, but the breaks in my 10 are super sensitive, even after 12k of use

Cool, thanks. I am very pleased with the improved braking my 11 has over what my 07 offered. The 07 was ok until I replaced the pads and rotors. Akebono's I will never use again, noisy and whatever they changed made them less effective under regular braking. I'm happy that I didn't have to use them in an emergency stop as I bet they wouldn't get the job done.
Nice 2010 sounds like it's a match to mine. Love this color.

svt2205,
Great little review.
Interesting how your truck ended up with Job2 Axel on a Job 1 build date. But it's better for you.
No trouble with warranty on DIY oil changes? I have a 2011 Ecoboost and asked the service dept. at my purchasing dealer about Oil changes and they informed me No DIY but it can be done at a alternative Licensed garage but should use a Motorcraft Oil filter, as Ford can argue Engine trouble/turbo was due to not using a OEM oil filter. Now they did also say they have not had any issues with Warranty claims and other oil filters but indicated that if Ford can deny they probably will.
I am also considering changing out the Goodyear SRA's that I thought were going to be a A/T tire. These are also Mushy P rated tire. LT tire will be next in line. I am considering the size 275/70/18's compared to my 265/65 which is a little over 3% difference. Have you noticed and issue with the transmission shift points? I am wondering if I should stay under 3% difference and go with a 285/65/18.
Anyway Great looking truck and keep the opinions, thoughts, concerns alive on this forum.
