F-250 Wheels

Hello,
Now I know the new Super Duty wheels have a 8x170MM bolt circle and the old style are 8X6.5" and are not supposed to interchange, however I saw yesterday a mid 70's F-250 with the later what looked to be Excursion wheels on it, This was not a fixed up or custom truck, I wanted to follow the guy and ask how he managed to get the wheels to fit, but I caught a red light and he got away.
I have been told the difference in the two bolt circles is only .196", I can't believe that this small of a difference would cause a problem.
Am I way off base here?

In 98 model year Ford changed the lug an went metric to get 98 model year an newer wheel to fit older vehicles you need to get wheel adapters for them. I have a set of Excursion wheels I was going to use on mine an am trying to get rid of them.

People oblong the holes or use adapters, seen it a few times. Drilling out the holes is not a smart idea..
