I think that the 16.5 rims are actually a bit smaller in diameter than regular 16 inch rims, and 17.5 rims are about the same as 16s. Stu has done some good posts about this, you can probably search for Stu and 17.5 and find it.

Stu helped me out a ton in another thread I started specifically about these wheels. I had a set of 16.5's that I was going to use once I switched out the rear end, but I'm now going to bring them back and get a set of 16 inch wheels and tires. What I didn't understand before is that the 16 inch rims are a lot closer to the 17.5's than the 16.5's are. I also checked out the 750-16 tires on the Universal website, and I think I'll be satisfied with them. They are only about half an inch less in diameter than these original 17 inch tires. I was going to find some 17.5 inch rims after I swapped out the rear end just so I could get the look close to original, but it turns out that the 750-16 tires are actually bigger than the 8-17.5 tires when it comes to overall diameter. Man this stuff is confusing sometimes! Thanks to everybody who offered their advice and opinions!!

rims

my f3 came with a pair of those '70's "optional" (aftermarket) 16.5" spoked rims you know they came on '70's camper specials and dealer optioned trucks they were always painted white with 8 spokes they fit (barely) over my big rear drums only the late style drums work though unfortunately. The early years had a large lip around the drums

17" Dodge rims from a 3/4 or 1 ton can work also .
