gas gauge not working???

93 F250 7.5l dual tanks 4x4. Gas gauge went out first in the front then the rear tank so I know it's a part inside the tank just dont know what I need to fix them. Thanks ahead of time.

could be a sunk float or the more likely problem is a bad sending unit. Check RockAuto Auto Parts and look up your vehicle. Look under fuel and air and then under fuel pump. You probably need the sending and float unit more than the fuel pumps themselves. Plenty of guys replace the entire float-pump-sender unit all at the same time.

While there is a little controversy about this... I have found the easiest way to replace these is by pulling your truck bed off and exposing the top of your fuel tanks. The only other way is to crawl under the truck and drop them down... I don't like this b/c too much crap falls down on your face and is kinda a pain. Plus you'd have to drop both fuel tanks... Engine hoists work good to pick the bed up... or you and 3 more friends...

Ok. Thanks. I actually have a 3" body lift so dropping it down might not be so difficult.

if your going to drop them... run it dry before you drop it... less weight and gas sloshing about... I recommend a tranny jack to strap it down and hold it in place while you lower it... more controled and a lot easier if you can get your hands on one...

Ok thanks. Don't know why but probably wouldn't have thought of empty tank = less weight

I cut out my old bed bolts and removed my bed this last fall to do both tanks... It was easier to remove the old lock rings with the tank being held in place to the frame... Plus it gave me the chance to mig-weld a couple muffler holes, and run wiring for a 7-pin to the back bumper. Plus the new bolts I put in have antiseeze on them now so pulling the bed is a 20 min deal now...

X2. Anti-seize works real good for that.
