Hi, I have a truck that has a 302 that had air density injection
and converted it to speed denisity. My question is which headers should I use for better gas milage, long or short headers? Should I
use converters or not. The whole exhaust is getting changed.
Thanks

IMO you just can't argue with the performance of a good long tube header. I could go into flow basics like scavenging and dam reversion but this has been beat to death. Long tubes out perform shorties- period. The shorties are easier to put on and can be emmissions legal. One bad side effect but not always encountered is the O2 sensor being moved on the long tube header but usually it is no problem. So if your gonna redo the exhaust I would go long tube. Regards.

I have a 89 302 5spd 4x4. I have Hooker Competition full length headers on it. They have a 2.5 in collector and the flange is welded on. I had Hedman Headers on it but the collecor on the drivers side hit on the front drive shaft. I called Hedman and they said it hit because i have a manual transmission. I think that they were just jerking me around so I sent them back and got the Hookers. I think that the Hooker Headers were made a lot better than the Hedmans. You will need to order a oxygen sensor fitting as well, you cannot use a nut because the threads are metric. I prefer to put the sensor in the right side header so if I ever unbolt the exhause and run opean headers it still has the oxygen sensor in the exhaust system.

Before i lifted my truck 8" I had heddman headers too.And i had a problem with them hitting my driveshaft also.
I called them as well.....they told me that the drivers side hit because i had a C-6 auto trans.....go figure.
I just bought a set of Heddman Elite headers.Well worth the money. There're alot beefier than the standard Heddman header.

what is the real difference in long tube or shorties? i am looking to get a little better sound and some more low end pull i have a 93 150 ext cab 4x4 302 bored 30 over with a k+n fipk and march underdrive. it is speed desity and will stay that way unless my dad totals his 94. i use my truck as a daily driver work hog. i do construction and just want some more pull / push power ( i plow snow as well) i am looking into JBA firecone short tube ceramic coat. and may be changing cam in the next year or so. what will work best. btw current exhaust is 2.5 off "y" to cat and 2.5 to a single in to dual out glass pack and 2.5 dual out the back with 3"x18" tips sorry post is soooo dang long any info would be great.
