Transmission build for 00' F-250

Hey guys thanks in advance for any helpful info I can get here, I'm new to this site, but I've found lots of useful info already.

On to the issue.... I'm having my 4R100 rebuilt by a local trans guy. I'm looking to get it built up to pull, (I do quite a bit of towing these days for business and pleasure). I want to know what all I should have done to make it right. I know the easy answer is have John Woods or BTS or Sun Coast do the work, but I just don't have $5000 to put into it.

What I understand I need to focus on is;

Torque Converter- triple clutch and billet housing
Steel Planetary gears
cooling system

I'm also wondering if there is other recommended "maintenance" I should do while I have the trans out.

Thanks again for any help!

Chris

Every planetary gear ever made for these transmissions was steel. Some of the earlier ones had aluminum carriers, but never aluminum gears.

I got the trans. pulled out today, lots of metal in the fluid! I will replace the main seal while I have it out. It wasn't as difficult as I was expecting. I'm anxious to see what the inside looks like as bad as the fluid looked!
