The truck an I are going around in circles.

Still have not been able to figure out the tach yet, it bounces when craking but does not show anything afterwords. I replaced the tach sensor on the motor. I replaced the mlps still no back up lights. I have check the fuses and they are all good. The od light does not work, I think it is burnt out.

Figured out the speedo, had a broken wire were they had rubbed on the parking brake cable. Got the fuel gauges to work. Alt has been replaced , had to get a second voltage regulator the first one did not work after i got it installed.

electrical issues with the E40D hey.
well,it happens.but hey,a whole used trans swap is just the price of a clutch for the 5 speed crowd. gotta look at the bright side when ya can.

well, start by checking the brake lights.those need to work,so the trans knows whats going on, to control the trans when you apply brakes.
id start with that one and report back.
fuses.test for power/ground,etc.there's must be a switch up there by brake someplace,id guess, but i dunno where it is or anything.a little looking or searching and im sure the switch for this would become known easy enough.

Brake lights work, fuses are all good. I am going to pull the harness again today and make sure that i have continunity at all the wires. I will also check today and see if i can trace the wiring for the tach and make sure it is all good. If it is then i may just install an aftermarket tach in the truck and not worry about the factory one.

If you follow the tack wire from sesor think it was orage and yellow wire it will go to the tranny brain located on driver side firewall rectangle shape with bunch off wires has 10mm bolt in the middle off it. have someone watch tack and give it a shake. That was my problem i had to replace brain on my 92. If i would give it a shke tack would work for a few seconds sometimes minutes drove me up a wall. I spent three weeks checking and searching all posabilites. Also look at your plug in on pass. side at trany use a mirror to see your pins on tranny side connections i have heard guys have found a pin bent over there or coroded badly.

When i bought the 91 the overdrive light was flashing, and it only had second gear. I rebuilt the tranny and upgraded some of the internals. I put a remaned solenoid block in it. Since the body i was putting on it was from a 95 with a 302 in it. I put a 92 diesel wiring harness and insterment cluster in it from an f250 with a 7.3. the computer is from a 93. This truck has been fighting me the hole way at going together.

I suffered a similar pain last year, I would see a little activity while cranking but I would have to let it idle for as much as 10 minutes before the tach would kick in. I replaced tach sensor a few times, tach a few times, tested all the wiring and cleaned all the connectors. Still nothing. In the end it was a bad ECU. It had moisture in it, I think because the rubber seal was missing between the firewall and the hood and rain was running in that direction.

The new ECU made a huge difference in shift quality as well. Apparently mine had been going for some time.

Well finilly figured out the tach turns out that even though the plugs are the same on the right fender the wires are different between the 91 and the 92 models.
