Koestner:

When you remove the torque converter inspection cover, do you have to deal with transmission fluid spilling out the cavity? I have the rattle in 2nd gear at 1900 RPM and it really sounds like metal rattling more than anything else. Thank you.

The bell housing is not sealed, nothing leaks out. That cover is causing the noise that you hear. Bend it some and reinstall it.
Your welcome Jason.

Your signature shows a deezle, so the Y pipe and flutter are non issues for that. If this is for another rig with the V-10 then carry on, I don't have any flutter vid links but search around on Youtube for some.

I must say I find it very ironic that there are 0 sound clips of an exhaust with the ypipe and yet everyone says how terrible it sounds.

Someone prove the point please! Attached a before and after!

I have clips of mine with the y pipe in my Photobucket, but you won't find flutter in it.

no mater how much you mod a v10 u will never feel a difference in power unless u do gears, nitrous or super/turbocharger...... so save your money

04 Excursion Mods

I did the 03 3valve y pipe, K&N filter, Autozone throttle body spacer, remove the cat and added a 3" dynamax muffler and a Superchip programmer. I also put 285/75/16 mud tires on it. I drive it every day and in 87 octane economy I was getting 9mpg to 9.6, but... when I switch it to the performance tune STILL WITH 87 OCTANE! @ 70 on the freeway and this is no bull the ceiling screen said anywhere from 12mpg deep in the trottle to 15 MPG!!!!! I drove it 190 miles that day. In the city I'm averaging 9mpg to 10.5mpg depending on my foot. Lol NO DRONE OR FLUTTER! 373 gears!!!

If you got the SPD ypipe or similar y-pipe with the stock manifolds you have flutter plain and simple. If you say you don't it is obvious you don't know what flutter is and what it sounds like. Probably because you havn't worked on V10 trucks enough with enough exhaust manifold, header and exhaust combinations to know the difference.

The stock manifolds are the cause of flutter on the 99'-04' V10s. The later 00'-04' y-pipe is necked down to get rid of the flutter, which it does quite well. Guess why the 3V 6.8l does not have flutter issues, it uses a much better manifold design with longer primaries.

If I could take you for a ride in my dads V10 with stock manifolds, SPD and Force II exhaust and then take you in my V10 with Thorleys and Force II exhaust you would hear the difference instantly. I could throw 2 more mufflers on my dads truck and you could still hear the flutter in the cab and out the tailpipe at certain rpms. Loud exhaust makes it harder to hear flutter inside the truck but makes it more apparent outside the truck.

Monsta did a video showing flutter years ago that came out pretty good. But it can be hard to get on video sometimes.

I watched the video and mine doesn't sound like that. I will try to do a vid today. Like said earlier I used the stock 03 3 valve y pipe.

There was no 3V in 2003. The 3V did not come out until 2005 in the SD. Plus the y-pipe, converter portions, exhaust manifolds and etc on the 3V are different than the 2V trucks. If you have the stock ypipe that came on a 2003 V10 SD that is designed to reduce or eliminate exhaust flutter. The 1999- early 2000 y-pipes were a different design and had flutter.
