What Color Wheels? Need Opinion

The chrome is pitting on my Ion Terminator wheels. I am going to have them powdercoated and want some advice on what color to apply.

The truck is charcoal metallic & I've got a Buckstop rear bumper that is powdercoated nearly the same color as the truck. I live in Portland, OR & the place that powdercoats Buckstop's bumpers is based in PDX, so they have the ability to apply the same color to the wheels. I'm thinking that may be too much of one color though? (gray weels, gray bumpers, gray truck)

Lots of good advice/opinions on this site, just looking for a little direction.

...sorry, can't figure out how to post a pic.

I'd say Gloss Black.

I agree I had an 04 150 dark shadow gray, and black is a great accent color for the dark metallic grays. Go all black or gray outer rings and black inserts.

Good thought Furian.

The truck does see some light offroad use in the snow in the winter months and that is when the pitting occurs. Even if they did warranty the wheels, they would likely just re-chrome them & the same problem would occur again next winter. I'm looking for a more drable finish (& less downtime than a re-chroming process).

Another vote for gloss black.
Can you post a pic of the truck?

I have my wheels powdercoated. They used a three stage process. The final process was a clearcoat.

After a year, the brake dust pitted the wheels. They are still somewhat shiny after 4 years, but not like the original wheels. I also wax them frequently The powdercoating does chip easily too. Much more than chrome.

I have my bumpers, wheels the same color as the body. I like it, and get compliments.

If you have a computer, I would say take a picture of the truck. change the rim color. Sure is a lot less costly than guessing.

sc_mopar: I'm a little concerned that your powdercoat didn't hold up. That's mainly what I'm looking for is durability.

Franko72: I couldn't figure out out how to put a pic on this thread, but I did put a couple pic of my truck in my "garage" (pre Buckstop bumper).

If I go with black, why gloss vs flat? I would think a flat color would hide any future blemishes.

I am not a fan of black rims - I much prefer a mix of chrome with black accents...
Just my opinion

Thats a gorgeous truck...I take back the gloss black, chrome looks good with that color, or maybe just aluminum. Its going to be difficult to keep em looking good powdercoated.
When you hit reply, scroll down till you see "manage attachments" in the "additional options" box, click it and upload a pic from your computer.
There will be three "browse" buttons to upload pics with.
Hope that helps.

Ya know, I though about a Rhino line. The places I called though said it wouldn't stick well to chrome. I'm also concerned about keeping them looking presentable. The first time you get your Rhino-lined bed dirty, it doesn't come clean.

if you had ur wheels sand blasted to remover all the crome it should stick pretty good. but ur right about rhino loneing being hard to clean. i would try mabey putting a clear coat over the rhino lineing like you would bith regular paint. it just might work lol

If it were up to me, I would get a replacement set of Ion wheels and sell them. Then take the money and purchase the wheels you need.
