I'm working on tracking down an oil leak on my '01 PSD and I wanted to mention something I discovered that might help someone else out.

My leak is either at the turbo pedestal or the EBPV rod. That whole area was one big gunky mess so I couldn't tell where it was coming from. I tried the simplegreen + water cleaning solution and it didn't work very well for me. It might have worked after many repeated cleanings but I don't see how anything water based will clean oil off very well.

I bought a can of brake cleaner and had the whole area super clean in about 10 minutes.

I realize you need to be careful about what you spray brake cleaner on. Make sure the engine is stone cold so you don't ignite the cleaner on the turbo/exhaust.

You also don't want to spray it on rubber things as it may damage some of them, so this probably won't be a good idea for cleaning up around the HPOP area.

Oh, and I have a question. Am I right in assuming there are two places for a turbo pedestal leak: 1.between the turbo and the pedestal and 2.between the pedestal and the engine block?
