operating cost gas vs diesel

so im lookinf to purchase a new truck, and with gas prices going up im wondering how real world operating/maint costs on these new advanced engine differ between the 6.2 and the 6.7?? obviously diesel is more $ but with the mileage i get now i think ill still be ahead with the diesel fuel wise... is it that big a difference??

I considered the same question before my new 250. I looked closely at the type of use for the trk. I do haul a 8000 # trailed several times a month any where from 50 to 100 miles round trip. The rest of the time its short trips and often stop and go. I get around 9mpg towing and 12.9 stop and go 15 on the highway with a lite load.
In my case I went with the 6.2 because I was not hauling 90% of the time and with a lot of short trips felt it the diesel was not warranted. The other thing is the short trips are not that healthy for the diesel because it does not have time to really warm up and stay hot they don't like the short cycles.
If you are really using the truck hard and heavy then the diesel will serve you well and in the long run possibly be more economical but you can buy a lot of gas for what you pay extra for it. Just 2cnts

You don't but a superduty to worry about gas mileage lol.

But I'd go with the gasser just for the fact that diesels cost a hellofa lot more than gassers

They do cost more and more to maintance. So unless you have a long distance towing or heavy towing there is absolutely nothing wrong with the gas motor.

I like the diesels but if you're looking at it with only fuel/gas costs in mind it's possibly a toss. Once you figure the higher purchase price, maintenance and repair costs of the diesel without any other reasons to justify it, gas is the way to go.

Are you on nantucket island?
