I didn't realize you'd gotten an F-150 Brandon. Congrats....great looking truck!

 

Don't forget folks, the ecoboost has about a 10,000 mile full break-in period. You MPG's should incrementally improve then finally level off and remain stable.

The ecoboost also is more sensitive to seasonal changes and seasonal fuel blends than any engine that I've ever owned in the past.

2013 EB, 157 wb, 4x4, 4.10 gears, max tow package, 5500 miles and getting 19.5 computed combined mileage, 21.5 highway, pulling 10,500 camper in southern indiana got 9.5 mpg. also, having pulled before with a diesel i was truely impressed with how this truck pulls, its an amazing engine thus far!!

 

How much Hp from a muffler swap...LOLLLLLLL...Talk about over rated lying. Same thing with the intake. What a joke..Intake companies have been quoting 25 hp for years..One of fte members did a dino run and noted zero hp increase with it installed..if it was that easy ford would do it..Also its all about advertising don't fall for the hype..

 

I just got my new truck a little over a month ago. Only about 1000 miles on it still since I left on vacation the day after I picked up the new truck.

2013, crew cab, 4x4, max tow and payload. Truck says I'm averaging 15 mpg. I do quite a bit of city driving but with a light foot. I expected a little better, but the 4x4 and towing gears are sure to take a bite. Hopefully it will improve after the "break in" period.

Hard to calculate mpg by hand since my CC won't let me fill the 34 gallon tank in one go.

 

I totally agree with you! I've been saying that on the other forums but nobody really agrees I guess. I've tried two different catbacks & neither improved 1/4 mile times & I have a file drawer full of time slips. Noise changes, that's about it, maybe with downpipe they'd help but I believe as long as I have the stock cats exhaust doesn't matter. After all, the stock exhaust is straight-thru also. Investing that money one would spend on an exhaust is better spent on a tune.

 

Traded in my 2011 SCREW long box EcoBoost with 89,200 miles about a month ago. Overall mileage from day one was 17.6 according to the truck. About 20% of the time I was pulling a tall 19' enclosed trailer where the mileage would drop to 11.5. Another 10% of the time I was pulling a 18' fishing boat or a 24' pontoon and got around 15.5. The remaining 70% was combined city/highway driving.

l was very happy with the truck after getting some minor bugs worked out which were mostly software upgrades. After the last upgrade at 60,000 miles it ran perfect with lots of power. It had 3.55 gears. Also cab height fiberglass topper.

I agree about the mileage dropping significantly when pulling a trailer. My highway mileage with no trailer was typically 19.5 to 21 in the summer. In MN winters it also dropped but not really anymore than other vehicles I have owned. Wind also affected mpg but again just like any other taller vehicle.

Most impressive was the way it would pull a trailer. That scored big points with me and I traded it in on a 2013 SCREW EcoBoost long box of the same color so I could switch the topper over. Got a Lariat package this time instead of an XLT and got 3.31 gears. It still has plenty of power to do the pulling I need it for. Bottom-line the EcoBoost has worked well for me.

My 2012 XLT crew-cab Ecoboost Gets 21 MPG give or take a few 10ths. this is a complete stock truck with 40k miles. I drive slow (55-60 when traffic allows) 60 miles a day all highway. I have gotten on some shorter trips with no city or stop and go traffic 25 MPG, But as soon as I do any city driving It dips back down and averages 21 by the end of the tank.

 

Just got back from a long trip from Florence, SC to Dalton, GA. The gas mileage is great if you follow the speed limit. Once it gets past 75 the mileage goes way down.

 

I have a new 2014 (5+ k miles) F150 XLT Scab, 4x4, 8ft box, MaxTow pkg and HD pkg which only comes with 3.73 rear end.

I'm getting 10.9 +/- mpg pulling a 4990# travel trailer. I'm getting about 19 +/- on the highway.

With my set up, I'm happy with the MPG.

 

Just picked up my 2014 fx4 ecoboost and I am only getting 10mpg. I'm hoping there is a break in period? . Love the truck so much fun to drive, we test drove all the competing trucks, even have an employee discount on the Tundras, but I love the FX4.

Does anybody know how long the break in period should be? The dealer said should get 17-22mpg. Let's hope!!

Hi Amy. Good choice. You should probably plan on 10,000-15,000 miles for full break-in. I have an '11 FX4, with the 3.73 rear gears and it started getting it's best mileage after 10,000. The truck will be a little sensitive to wind and I've found my best mileage at just under 70 mph. Over 70, the mileage starts to drop off. I also use mid-grade (89 octane) as I've found somewhat better mileage using it. I just got back from a 700 mile weekend trip and average a little over 20 for the round trip and 21.5 on just the return side. I get about 15.5 around the suburb I live in and that will drop off if I get heavy on the gas. You will see folks talking about poor mileage and then admitting to stop-light racing and driving 80+ mph on the highway. My truck weighs 6100 lbs with the topper, tools, me and a full tank. so I'm very happy with the mileage.

 

Thank you for the reply! I mostly will be driving kids around and occasionally will be taking road trips towing our 5th wheel scamp. The FX4 is a bit overkill for the scamp since it only weighs about 3k pounds. But at least that will help with the mileage!
