Turbo 3 valve V10

I may be jumping the gun a bit but we just finished up the turbo install on my 06 V10. As I type this Mike at 5 star tuning is working on a more final tune. So far on the dyno we gained 70rwhp and 130lbs of torque at only 5 lbs of boost. For the most part this has been a pretty straight forward install and has turned my truck into monster. If anyone in the Northwest is interested in doing this to their V10 contact me. 05 and newer 3 valve trucks will be cheaper due to the fact that they have larger injectors than the old two valve engines. 24# vrs 19#. I will report in later after I drive it more, I am guessing mileage wont change much, it cant get much worse... Pictures and video will be available in the near future.

Good gains on only 5 lbs, especially torque. I'd bet you could squeeze even more out with some dyno time. If you could post any pics and more details on your setup that would be great. Are you running an intercooler? What octane fuel?

Before with just a tune from 5 star I was getting 10-11 towing 8000 pounds in the mountains and 12-13 empty. Thats with 35" tires too.

I too think there is a little more left but I want to stay on the extra safe side being that I tow up some pretty steep grades. Not running an intercooler, the turbo is mounted where the muffler was and the length of the pipe to the intake is quite long which gives it ample time to cool down. On the dyno we never saw intake temps above 138 degrees. I would consider it if I was to run more boost but I am near the limit of the stock injectors. Pictures will probably come late next week.

Interesting. I've always wanted to put a turbo or a supercharger on one of my trucks but I've always been a bit of a chicken....blowing stuff up sucks

I wanna see the dyno graph to look at the power/tq curves. You're finding about what I would expect out of 5 lbs of boost. What turbocharger body/exhaust housing combination did you end up using?

I used a stock turbo from a 6.7 cummins with the stock housing and custom downpipe. Torque peaked at 3200 at just under 500lbs and horsepower was pretty flat but peaked at 4700 at about 348 horse. Turbo was mounted where the stock mufler was, I am suprised that it isnt louder than it is, sounds pretty cool actually.

Peak HP/TQ honestly means nothing to me-it's usually for those with a "who's got the biggest"...well you get the idea . I'm much more interested in the overall curve and power/torque across the RPM range.

Like I mentioned those were peak numbers but the curves were quite flat. I actually thought the torque curve would be flatter than it was but it came on real strong at 2k and tarted to to taper off after 4k but still quite strong. The horsepower curve was what supprised me, it was a gradual climb to its peak.

The whole reason for doing this was to improve towing ease. I wanted it to be able to stay in higher gears up smaller hills. It pulled the big hills pretty damn well before but at over 4k rpm, now I think I can do it in a taller gear. With the curves we got it should work really well. I am not building a race car, thats whats in the trailer...

When I get the tune back and the truck back on the dyno we will post some video and pictures.

You're basically after what I am looking for in a turbocharger, and the goals sound the same. I'm definitely interested in the dyno graph overlaid with the stock pulls to see the gains and where the gains are.

What power gains do you think adding an intercooler (6.0l IC for example) would yield? Even with the long distance from the turbo to the intake I would think after towing for long periods in hot weather the intake air temp would rise.
