Ok, how does this sound so far?...

Engine guy just got the 390 block bored (.060 over), getting ready to put it all together...

Oiling mods are next on the schedule...

The Edel heads came in last week...

Got a complete rocker assembly coming from Pioneer Automotive Products in MS - anybody ever dealt with them?...

Have MSD box and coil that's currently on my blown 302 - MSD FE dizzy on the way...

RPM intake...

Holley 650 on top...

Melling HV oil pump and ARP HD shaft...

All new bolts throughout...

CR probably gonna be around 10.5:1... Engine guy says that 11:1 is safe with alum heads but I'm a little weary of going that high...

Also, as far as a cam goes, he's suggesting something with around .550-.570 lift and 236-240 duration, probably hydraulic. ?? Does that sound like it will work ok with the rest of the engine? I know very little about cams, so somebody please chime in on this.

What does the 390CI displacement change to at .060 over?

That's it for now. All suggestions, comments, criticisms, etc. are certainly welcome and appreciated.

Thanks.

I would probably be looking for more duration on the cam- say something like 260 to 280. You are most likely to be a little light on the carb size. With your mods a 700-750 should work better. What transmission and rear gears are you going to run?

I assume your cam specs you listed are at .050. This engine is going to see close to 7,000rpm shift points and the carb is not big enough for it. That cam is actually too big for the heads without some port work. I would keep the duration around the 230 mark or you will be loosing mid range and only gaining on the "ALMOST TIME TO SHIFT" rpms. That rocker assembly is going to snap with a big cam unless it is a high performance set. I'm guessing its stock replacement stuff. 11:1 might be okay with a big cam but 10.5:1 is a safe bet. Your 390 is now a 402.

The tranny is a freshly rebuilt C-6 with shift kit and 2500 stall converter.

Rat, you were absolutely right about that rocker assembly. After I asked some more questions, I found out that they are indeed stock replacements and nothing more. So I guess the search for a decent but affordable rocker assembly goes on. I just really didn't want to have to put $600 in rockers...

Rat, what RPM range does your truck shift at?

As always, thanks for the help.

Crane has an adjustable rocker setup #34772-16 for $190. But for a little more $ you get rollers from Comp...#1046-16. At just over $300 it's not too shabby.
