Unfortunately for us, we have thirty year retirement George. Bad thing about mine is that not all of my LE time counts toward my state retirement so I've got a little while to go. I've been called and approached about four times in the past month with job offers but all of them are with Sheriff's Offices. They're good jobs but the job security in a Sheriff's Office isn't the best. It's still something I'm looking at though. They are all dayshift positions but they mean a lot of commuting whereas I now drive about six blocks to work. Lots to think about.

Close to work is always a plus. Lot of people around the Stuart area commute for about an hour one way. There is a lot to be said about job security. I know in Tompkins County, NY the deputies are in good shape security wise. The Sheriff and Under-sheriff, that's a different story. Past sheriff was just voted out after 12 years.

Funny how different things can be from state to state when it comes to this. In VA, the employees of the Sheriff serve at the pleasure of the Sheriff by law. Heck, Virginia Sheriffs don't even have to have a grievance procedure....it's all in statute. It's been challenged before to no avail. A new Sheriff comes in and can pretty much clean house if he wants to. Most don't for political reasons but they can make a lot of changes.
The offers I got would mean either having to move to another county or leave my assigned car there and commute about 60 miles each way in my personal vehicle. It's a tough decision. Taking any of the jobs would mean retiring 5 years earlier and about a $3k pay raise. But it also means relocation or a lot of fuel costs which would negate the pay increase. I'll have to ponder it some more but I'm likely staying where I am. I've been here for 17 years and all in all, I have a great employer. The grass isn't always greener......

Yes it seems we've had a case of road rage here. Luckily it was outside my jurisdiction and the Sheriff's Office handled it. It's getting worse all the time.

happy saturday...cold and yucky here. my blitzy (blue merle collie) turns a whole 2 years old today! he is a bit smaller than a mastiff but still a sturdy 78 lb boy
this is him "helping" to install fencing last spring
sure wish the weather would pick one (preferably "warm") and stick with it...truck is starting to get pre-death wobble symptoms, since she is due to be rotated and balanced. this whole 70 one day and 40 the next does not make it easy to even get tires inflated correctly >: (
anyone ever heard of/tried the permanent tire balancing beads/*****?

I ran the airsoft pellets for a few years on my stupid duty. I got great tire wear and they were always in balance. The only proglem is when I went down the road real slow I'd have to watch for all the Latino's trying to jump in the truck as it sounded like I was having a fiesta when they would roll around inside the tires!
