THEFT LIGHT flashing rapidly, starts but dies in gear

ok got a new issue here...... was tracing some trailer light wiring pulling fuses and relays, well long story short pulled something or changed out something that made the theft light flash. pretty sure it was a bad relay, and my have grounded out the ecm/pcm......

here's the symptoms. the truck will start and idle fine, theft light and abs light stay on (theft light flashing) abs light stays on. if you put it in R (reverse) it will cut off, engine dies. put it in N (neutral) start the truck, theft light flashes, abs light stays on, you can drive forward back to neutral, but as soon as you go into reverse the truck dies...... if you turn the key on and let is sit, the theft light will flash rapidly, then slow down to an OFF.... ONE......OFF.......SIX.......OFF.......ONE........ .OFF.......SIX flash pattern, same if you start the truck and let it idle for a few minutes.

i've tried unhooking the battery to reset the pcm...... still no change

i've tried the "theft reset" put key in, turn to on, let sit, turn off, then start the truck........... still no change.

i'm stumped, my gut tells me that i just purchased me a PCM/ECM, but if there is any other test / reset procedure i can try throw it at me i'll give it a shot.

how long did you let it sit with battery off? Most PCM have to sit at least 30 min with no juice to completely reset.

about 10-15min. i'll go unplug it after i type this.

i was looking at the fuse panel and wondering if it circuit board protected? with all the plugs in the back, and fuses up front, i'm wondering if it has a circuit board inside that may have got a shot of grounding. it looks to be sealed, but i'm going to contact the dealer on monday as well to see what they might charge for a pcm check/ reflash if needed.

I think you either put a fuse or relay in the wrong location or forgot to install one. Your owners manual has a diagram of the fuse box, double check everything.

Not sure if it's a coincidence but the wiring coming out of the shift lever may be worn and grounding. It is an easy check and it could just be presenting at the same time.

no it was a boo boo on my part for sure. i took the fuse box apart. there are little tabs on the side you can push in and separate it. when i pulled it apart to see if it was all just wires, or if there was a circuit board. well come to find out that the fuse box has a circuit board internally. right off the bat i notice that there is a burnt line on the board. no fuses blew, no pop, sparks, ect..... i'm not 100% sure it it was a relay i swapped or not.

so it's definitely the fuse box for starters!
