'78 F250 4x4, build thread.

Well, I've been looking for a dent for 3 years, found lots of good ones but none of them I could get a good deal on, or I didn't have the money at the time but I'm 99.9% sure I've got one now.

I came from the factory with a 351M400 but the guy pulled it to have it rebuilt and his first offer I could live with getting the rebuilt motor with it but I had to get some doors for it since I don't have a shop to park it in while I work. So me and him worked up another deal for the truck, 2 good doors, a 300/6 and a bunch of other little goodies that would nickel and dime me to death.

I have a old truck of mine I no longer want that he agreed to trade me his truck and 150 cash for my old truck, I was wanting 800 for mine so this way I'm getting a truck I was buying anyway and 850 for my truck. Its a sweet deal imho.

Pictures:

I'm going to check it out in person sunday, then if all checks out I'll probably have it next saturday.

He also told me he has a set of 16.5" rims for it I may get with it, if I do, I'm thinking military tires.... Questions, and comments welcome.

Pretty much $700 for the truck, the 300, 2 good doors, and a bunch of other goodies for it.

EDIT: this truck is a factory dual tank truck, how rare is that option on a 250? And would it make finding a bed easier to delete one of the tanks?

Wow I thought that was one of my trucks on your trailer!! HA. Don't see that shade of green around too much. Mine is a 78 F-250, 4sp, 4X4, same colour with the box off. It also had a 300 in it. Has over 400,000 km on it when I started stripping it, great truck.

Good Luck with your project...

Thanks guys. I don't even have it yet and I'm bout to die to get tearing into it.
This one didn't come with a 300 from the factory, it came with a 351M but with gas prices only going up, and it going to be used to pull, work and look damn good doing it, I figure the the 300 is the best power plant for keeping the MPG's decent and making amazing power. .....and I've wanted a 300 for a while now.

If the 16.5 rims are stock and you want to sell them, contact JNKYRD1 in Chesapeake cause he is looking for a set

I don't think they're stock, but if I get'em with the truck I'll end up keeping them to mount my play tires for the swamp on.

Bigdaddy: the 16.5's are white wagon wheel rims. Far from stock.
Everyone else, I'll have it monday or tuesday, if not it may be 2 or 3 months. A family emergency came up on his end, I may miss some school to get it....

A little info I did gather
Its a custom cab ordered with every option avaliable from FoMoCo in 78.
Also this truck came from the factory with a drivers side mirror that adjust from inside the cab, it was the only one I have ever seen, the mirror isn't big enough to tow a trailer with and see, I was planing on putting the western style like was on a lot of 87-88 F150's and some of these, should I ask for the adjustable mirror with it? I was going to use the truck for work, play, and show. The work requires pulling quite a bit, that's why I was thinking about the western style mirrors, but if the adjustable mirror is really a rare option I'll get it. Just need some help with that..

I'm just throwing this out there for you. I'm not sure how rare the option is, but I have the small mirror on my truck that ISN'T adjustable. The west coast mirrors you speak of are the same size for big trucks as they are for pick up trucks. They make after market electric-adjustable mirrors for big trucks. I think power mirrors on your dent would look cool. Especially in polished stainless.

well just going to warn you, 16.5" tires are extremely hard to find and I would suggest just getting some 16". One time on ebay I found a lot of 500 16.5" military tires. Unless you can find a crapload of tires, your best off with 16".

I got 16's and 16.5's he gave me both sets.
And I am officially a proud new owner of a 78 F250 4x4. Got it a couple of hours ago.

I'll have more pictures up in a little while, and plenty more to come.

Ok, this may seem dumb, but I need to get priorites in order, sould I fix the rust on my cab and then pull the cab, or should I go ahead and pull the cab, get everything on the frame ready and then do rust while the cab is off?
