352 swap to 390

i have a 1966 f250 with a tired 352, i was wondering if i can swap in a 1968 long block and run the 352 intake, flywheel, harmonic balancer and brackets?

Yes, but there's a good chance your 66 intake will have ports about 1/4" taller than the ports in the 68 heads.

The blocks are basically the same, so the aft parts are bolt up. Have you thought about building the 360 into a 390 and going in that direction?

yes i have thought about building the 352 into a 390 but the local performance shop wants $3200 to do the job! i can get a brand new rebuilt long block create for $1600! So i figured why spend twice the amount!?

The 68 360 already has a 390 bore block, not sure why you would build the 352 instead.

The local either doesn't want the job or has priced you something way out on a limb.

Get another opinion/price. Keep looking.

BTW, Where are you located, this is a huge site with lots of readers, maybe a local can help point you in the right direction.

Believe the balancer/damper and pulley changed in 68, if not mistaken, should be able to use the 66 balance and pulley on the 68 but can't use the 66 damper w/ later pulley, the bolt pattern is different. In meantime, might want to keep an eye out for 2-3 sheave damper pulley in event later decide to go with p/s upgrade.

Yup it is very near BeaverDam. My wife has relatives that live there. We travel there from time to time.

Everything that bolted on to your 352 will bolt to the rebuild 390. Flywheel to balancer, heads to oil pan.

As to the heads being taller in the intake dont worry about this unless you are building a screamer. This can be cured with an aftermarket intake. There millions of rebuilds out there with mis matched heads.

can i have my intake milled down or is it easier just to go with a aftermarket intake?
