1983 Econoline coachmen fuel gauge problem

Hello,
I hope this is the right place to post this.
We have a 1983 Econoline coachmen that has duel tanks.
The aux gauge is working but the gauge to the main tank doesnt register.

Could this be the sending unit?
If anyone could point me to a dirgram would really help or suggestion.

thanks.

What does "doesnt register" mean?
Is the gauge pegged below "E" or above F"?
Does it just point to "E" or "F"?
Is "aux gauge" the front or rear tank?

Have you unplugged the the gauge sender plug and seen what the gauge does with the key on?
It should peg above Full.
Have you shorted the wire (with yellow on it) to ground at the gauge sender plug and seen what the gauge does with the key on?
It should peg below empty.

Note that I had the pegs back wards in my post above before.
I is right now (I think).
Normal should be 145 ohms at the "F" mark and 22.5 ohms at the "E" mark.

Here is a diagram for the non-electric fuel pump but the wiring for the fuel gauges should be the same if it has electric pumps or not.

Thanks again for all the help.
Well it looks as if we're gonna have to pull the front tank. Does anyone have any advice on doing such a project?
Also does anyone have a good idea on how to drain the fuel from tank? Thanks again

You may want to use a floor jack to let it down and hold it in place while you undue the straps and put them back on.

Ok getting ready to drain the fuel from front tank. I see there r two lines goin to tank. One line is a little bigger then the other. Witch line carries the fuel to engine and what is the other line for?

The larger line is the supply to the engine and the smaller is the return from the engine to the tank.
To be more exact the smaller line comes from the vapor separator.

Very good sub. Thanks bro.
Ok we r gonna drain the fuel from tank using a micro fuel pump. Mine question is where would b the best place to splice into the fuel line? I was thinking just before the Electric Selector Valve.

And the bottom picture is the wiring diagram for selector switch?
Someone has already worked and re wired everything to the front tank.
Now we're gonna have to go in clean and figure out what the problem is as far as the gaug not working. Once we have the tank down what is the best way to test the sending unit?

Yes it is.

The Fuel sender should have 22.5 ohms in the empty position and 145 ohms in the full position.

The wire to the gauge peg passed full when not connected to anything (open) with the key in the run position.
When the gauge wire is shorted to ground it should peg passed empty with the key in the run position.
