Registerting in a different state

I'm sick of all the recent smog regulations in CA and am considering registering my currently registered CA truck in Wyoming. There's no smog and I have an address that I can use.

Can anyone who has switched registration states give me some advice? I don't need to actually bring the truck to that state, do I?

Depends on the state. They will usually want to do a VIN inspection when you register and title in another one.

Wyoming doesn't have inspections IIRC from friends who live there. You may have to have the truck present for the state swap though like Clay mentioned.

check out this link

about half way down is "prepare the paperwork" looks like a VIN inspection is required. What that is I have no idea

You might do one better and escape California for good and move to Wyoming.
I love it there when I'm out on vacation.

not sure on the visual inspection....etc, but either you'll have to reg it in someones name, that lives in WY, OR your drivers license will need to be in WY. If you live here, get pulled over, with a WY truck, with WY reg in YOUR name, and your drivers license in CA,....then they/DMV will look at it as, this(CA) is your min place of stay.

Buddy has a WA truck and reg along with a WA license...

I know when i registered my truck in WA they did not do anything other than inspect the title, issue me a new one, along with new plates, right there on the spot. I also had a washington license at the time I believe so that might be part of why they were so easy about it. For what its worth I do still use my california address as my "official" address, but I have a WA license and registration. (However im a bit different since im going to school in WA)
