Mine quit a couple of years ago and like Andy says it was the VSS sensor on the top of the rearend.. Napa has the sensor..(they call it a ABS sensor) P/N 530780 for around $12.. easy to replace..

When my VSS went out not only did the speedo stop working but I had a constant ABS warning light and the OD Off light was flashing.

Another thing that happens is the VSS gets wear metals attached to it and in some cases when cleaned off the speedo starts working again.

I agree Robin.. if there is alot of miles and no fluid chg on the rearend.. this would be a good time to change it out.. (eliminate those metal pieces)

Thanks for the follow up. My 2000 did the same thing. I wiggled the wires and problem fixed. My favorite 0$
