Need VIN decoded

Looking at a truck. All that is listed is crewcab, diesel 4x4 and vin. I need to know what trans is in it.

I may be wrong, but I don't think trans info is in a VIN...

The trans/axle/weight info will be given on the vehicle information label that can be found on the drivers side door jamb.

You need the trans code from the door sticker as already stated. `97 was the last year for the E4OD, so if auto, it is probably that.
