If you have a PSD, you won't have one.

PS - It really helps us if you fill out your sig so we know your Excursions pedigree.

in past 2 vehicles i damaged 2 of those mass air sensors from using k&n oil type filters. between the cost of the k&n, new air sensors, and oil cleaning kit, I would never recoupe the money spent in trying to save 1or2 mpg. just by the cheapest air filter every year and you'll be better off.

MAF removal for cleaning?
I cleaned my MAF, but did not actually open the housing of the circuit board; didn't have a torx. So, removing the tubular housing (that's inside the section just downstream, from the filter) and spraying both thermistors, was the best I could do. They seemed to clean nicely, and I was careful not to drip in, toward the circuit board.
Does the FTE collective braintrust think that's adequate?

Don't mean to resurrect a zombie thread, but I searched and found the info I needed, so thanks to the OP. However, I want to add a note of caution to one comment I saw that said to buy the cheapest filter. I am having to do this because of the failure of the glue that holds the paper element to the 'nose cone' on the filter. Not even 20K miles on it. The failure allowed unfiltered air to pass thru the intake and eventually caused a check engine soon warning. I'm hoping that cleaning the MAF will be sufficient. The filter in question wasn't even the cheapest, in fact it was a Motorcraft. I have always been a fan of Wix air and oil and will try to stick with my tried and true in the future.
