Drove for 1/2 hour, went to back up, wouldnt go, noticed tranny temp guage almost to the yellow, still go's in drive, I checked the tranny fluid, was very low, added 3 litres still no reverse, no leaks under truck, when i put it in rev. It revs up as if it was in gear but no go, very confused! Plz help

First off we can eliminate anything electronic. All the sensors and solenoids can't keep it from going into reverse. It's probably a seal in the reverse clutch, though it could be something broke in the reverse clutch, too. I would have to tear the trans down to be sure.

Does it sound right if the fluid didn't even show up on the dip stick that it would take 3 litres to fill it? Is it possible to burn that much fluid in three months time?

It isn't possible to burn oil in the transmission. It has to be leaking somewhere. With the engine COLD check for oil in the coolant. A common leak point is the trans cooler inside the radiator.
Another thing to check is if the transfer case is overfilled. The seal between the trans and transfer case can fail and the trans will lose oil to the transfer case. The way to check this is to remove the fill plug on the transfer case. If about three quarts run out, that's where you lost your fluid.

My guess is that it won't cause any more damage.
