Motorcraft Ignition...Duraspark II...MSD - I am so confused.
After reading about the different ignition modules, Duraspark conversion, MSD products...my brain is a bit glazed over.
What I have:
75 460
Ignition module: Motorsport D5AE 12A199 A1A - it has that sticky goop leaking out of it, so I want to replace it.
My questions:
What are my options as far as a new ignition module to replace the one I have?
Do I use the same dizzy or would I need to replace that too? I was unable to locate any casting/part numbers on it- not sure if I need that info or not.
What about the coil? Am I going to need one specific to the type of ignition module that I use?
Not building a race motor, just rebuilding the top end of my 460.
Thanks.
Chris

Both can use the stock distributor. I havent done an MSD, but they claim you should use their coil... take that for what its worth. Lots of info on the web on swapping in aftermarket modules, sounds easy enough.
You can replace the stock module. The cheap Chinese ones arent good quality, but they do work for a while at least. You would be doing fine to get a Motorcraft module.

From what I have read, this goop that leaks out is some sort of sealant to protect the components inside the module. When it gets too hot, this melts and leaks out.
I read about it last night but now I cannot find that forum/thread anywhere.
