F250 vs F350...

I've been wondering something for a while now... If you did a SAS on a F250, couldn't you change your badges to F-350???

Guess I am wondering if Ford made other improvements from the F250 to F350 lines besides the solid front axle...???

Obviously 4.10 gears would be more likely in the F350 since they would be considered heavy duty trucks with 7.3 and 7.5 engines... But I really couldn't think of anything else that really seperates the two...

Any comments???

Single rear wheel 350 and a HD 250 with the sterling rear are the exact same truck minus the frontend. I never really understood why ford even bothered to use the D50 frontend other than if they had given both trucks the D60 they couldnt have charged more for a SRW 350 over the 250.

I think the F250 was the 1/2 way point for comfortable drive... The Twin I-beam gives a little more gentle ride over bumps. So guys who are used to SUV's and small trucks would still find the ride quality appealing in the F150 and F250... It was also probably cheaper to use a D50 over a D60 for some reason... If it were cheaper to use a D60 there would be no reason for Ford to have ever used the D50 except for ride comfort.

Reality check says you buy a truck for rugged durability to be a work horse... Not a posch ride for the family and kids...

I thought I had read on here that the 350 has more leaf springs at least compared to a standard 250. Also thought they had a 2" lift block so they sat higher. There is probably as much difference between some of the 250 versions as there is between the 250/350. One of the subjects that has been beat to death several times.

Yeah I did realize the leaf packs would be thicker to hold more payload. I'm sure the topic has probably been beat to death on here and didn't really need anything else other than confirmation that the suspension and axles are the only difference.

I work side jobs to in order to play with my trucks and have been looking around and have located a couple 4x4 F350's in farm fields around here... Figured on doing a SAS on one or two of my trucks. One of the F350's has been inheritted through the purchase of a nearby property to me... I heard the owner will let me tow it off for $200! I am scrapping to get the cash together asap to go get it! Think it has the 5.8 with a shot rod from what I can remember... Oh well the D60 is worth so much more!!!!

I have a f 250 that has 4.10 gears in it i bought it that way new.so f 250s do have 4.10 gears in them.I agree the dana 50 gives a nicer ride.my truck has a straight axle dana 60 from an 88 f 350 4x4.If i had to do it over again i dont think i would do it the dana 50 is good enough and gives a nicer ride.now im getting bad death wobble from my dana 60 straight axle and i never got that with the stock dana 50 just saying.

yeah I know 4.10's can be found in F-250's it's just that 70-90% of the F250's I run into have 3.55's... then again I haven't looked under a F250 with a 460 or 7.3L... I'll probably leave the D50 alone in Thumper but I'm collecting parts to assemble a heavy load and tow rig... I might even go outside my expertise and do a diesel.

PS: fordinmudd you should go to your CP and set up a signature so we know what you're running!

I have a 94 250HD, 5.8 with 4.10s and limited slip. One of the main reasons I bought it even tho it needs work-near impossible combo to find really. Sure kills on mpg tho.

Agreed! I'm at an impass wondering if I should put the 4:10's behind the 5.8 or my 4.9 right now... They'll probably go behind the 5.8 though just to help towing...

You can do whatever you want with the emblems. You could throw F600 emblems on it if you want to. But the VIN# still says it's a F250 and that's what the cops are going to care about if you ever get stopped with it overloaded.

+1

You could put Mustang emblems on a Escort but you still not going to have a pony car.

Do whatever upgrades you want. It can only make your truck better and that is always a good thing. Just remember, that your truck is, and always will be, a F250. And that's a good thing and should be celebrated. You could be driving a Chevy...or an import There's no reason to try to make you truck anything that it is not.

The Twin I-Beams on the F250, I believe had ball joints, and the Twin I-Beams on the F350's all had King Pins.

Front axles F250 TTB (4x4) and solid Dana 60 front axle F350.

Gearing options was all the same F250 and F350, 3.55 or 4.10 (Sterling axles)

I'm pretty sure the F350's had a couple more leafs at the back.

That pretty much does it.

Engine options are almost all the same from F150's-F350's. Base model engine in F350's was still the 4.9L inline 6!
