Ground wire on hood bracket????

Help! 1999 Mountaineer, V6 engine. I found a broken black wire approximately 6 inches long hanging on the bottom of the passeger side hood bracket with a terminal connection. I cannot find the other end to determine what it goes to. Can anyone help with this? Thanks

Gonna need a few more details. What year is your Explorer? What color is the wire? Where precisely is the one end connected?

should be a terminal end under one of the hinge screws or close to it... There are several bare ground type wires from the hood to the body, motor to the frame, body to the frame, etc... this makes sure everything has a ground back to the battery, thru painted or rubber mounts.

Could it be a hood light?
