My kid brother, who lives in San Pedro, called me yesterday to announce he was the proud owner of a 2007 CC/LB XLT SRW with a 6.0. It's Dark Shadow Grey Metallic.

I remember his comment when I bought mine, "Couldn't you have gotten anything BIGGER?" Now he ARE one!

Yup. He's been using an Expedition to pull his boat and his kid's toy hauler, so I think he's going to really enjoy having the advantages of a complete interior AND the bed behind. The power won't hurt, either!

The youngest of the three brothers, Steve, in Valencia, has a '99 SC/LB XLT SRW with a V-10, so I guess I did OK with 'em! Actually, our dad started it all out with a '70 Ranger XLT.

(sigh) Another Stupor Duty. Our chapter prolly has more per capita than any other chapter, but...

There are exceptions...one of which you can see in my sig.

 

Just finding the chapter. I didn't even know they existed but am glad to be here. First tank of fuel at 17.9 mpg, mostly frwy miles. Can't wait to try pulling my boat or son's trailer vs using my 98 Expedition with the 5.4.

That's pretty good fuel economy! I know it's almost all freeway commuting miles for you, and it will drop off some on the surface streets, but there are lots more reasons to own and drive one of these things besides mileage. Safety is another.

Towing power will be like night and day when something's behind you, especially uphill.

Steve and Bill can get you squared away about EGR cooler and injector issues, as well as any others of which I'm not aware.

Other than keeping the fluids clean, and air in the tires, there's not a whole lot that I can think of that you need to stay on top of with these.

You might want to consider changing the coolant to ELC if it already hasn't been changed, but I'm not sure that's an issue with six-ohs.

6.0? I want one. But I hate the body style. Guess I could graft one into the 66 F350. Or just put the 66 cab on the newer chassis. 4X4 of course.

 

That's a heckuva' idea for those that want the best of all worlds.

You gotta' somehow adapt the newer interior amenities to the older cab, too.

That would be really sweet, and I'd bet it's do-able!

I'd want to work out the bugs down here first, before taking it up there. Too remote to make changes if anything doesn't work out.

Let's be thankful for small favors.

 

First things you want to do to that 6 leaker are:

Change the oil and filter. Don't trust anyone to have used the correct OEM filter, or even the correct oil. The correct oil is expensive, and many will use gasser oil to save a buck if they know they are selling.

Change the fuel filters (2). Again, only use OEM.

Don't worry about the air filter. It will tell you when it needs to be changed.

Before you tow, install gauges for coolant temp, oil temp, tranny temp, and exhaust gas temp. Easiest way to do that is an Edge Insight.

I use 16oz of Diesel Kleen with every tank of fuel. That's been good to me so far.

Your tranny needs a fluid flush every 30k.

Be prepared to do a lot of grinning while towing.
