Steering Questions: DOM tube size

Getting ready to order some tubing so I can finish my steering. Gonna go with high steer arms with the drag link on top. I want to connect with the same length as I have on the track bar to avoid any binding and bump steer,(Not that I will have it on the road.) Would 1 1/4 X .120 DOM work alright for this? Planning on using HEIM joints

I use 1.5x.250 DOM. Im not sure Id go as thin as .120 wall stuff but 1.25 should be ok.

One word of warning: Heims wear out rather quickly in a steering setup. Buy the best you can and by "best you can" Im not talking about the $15 ones.

I understand what you are saying,, The Bronco will be trailered, maybe ran a max of 5 or 6 times a year offroad, not gonna have it on the road, unless I am going a mile to the gas station,, So I dont think I'll have to worry about them wearing out too soon on me.
And what about the drag link? Can I get away with using the smaller diameter on it, and the 1.5 X .25 on the tierod? I am gonna run steering assist so the drag link wont have too much pressure on it.

Ive got the 1.5x.250 on both. Just buy 8' and be done with it for good. You could probably get away with 7' but that would be close. - I cant remember my measurements anymore.

If you havent bought the heims yet I think Ballistic has some really nice ones for the money. 7/8" shaft with a 3/4" ball and socket would get my vote.

I found DOM round steel tubing 1-1/2" x 1/4" x 96" ALLOY 1026 for right at $99 shipped, unless you know of some where cheaper. DOM is DOM,, right? And also, I have not gotten the Heims yet,, I prefer to get a complete list and sizes BEFORE I do any ordering. At least I am that smart! lol I dont even have my steering arms yet,, still waiting to figure out what size I need them drilled out to.

$12ish per ft is about right. I bought a full 21' stick for just over $200 quite a while back.

Just buy good heims - chromo with kevlar liners. With the 1" ID of the 1.5x.250 DOM 7/8" is as big as you can go unless you tap the inner ID instead of using a weld in bung. 3/4 on the ball end works really well in the Ford knuckles/pitman arm. Just hit it with a good drill and bit to take the taper out.

thats about what this equals out to, 8 foot at $12 is $96,, thinking about getting the rebuild-able, so at least I can tear them apart to clean them after they get mud soaked a few times.. Or I could just spray the hell outta them with Fluid Film or WD40.

The ones I linked are bigger stronger and cheaper. Neither are rebuildable like you wanted and yours are for 1 1/4x.120 tube not 1.5x.250. Up to you though.

If you want rebuildable youre going to spend a good bit of money. You will need to tap your tube rather than weld in bungs to use these also. 3.0" FORGED Ultra Duty BALLISTIC joint

If you buy from Dan at Ruffstuff use PBB10 in the offer code section so you get 10% off your order.

Thanks Alpha,, took your advice and ordered them from RoughStuff just now, Gonna opt to buy a couple cone spacers instead of the spacers they provided though, I want to keep the bolt at 3/4 at least.
Now,, just gotta get my tubing and arms ordered.
So,, arms that go over the caps,, or the spring eliminator type??

The adjustable preload steering arms is the way to go. Otherwise you'll have to shim your kp springs to keep the death wobble out. Its not a big deal but its much easier to turn a bolt at the top to get your preload.

Btw, no need for spacers on the heims. The knuckles do not move independently of each other up and down so there is no need for the ***** to articulate. Just slap a 3/4 bolt though it and call it good.
