Need part for steering column

I'm looking for a replacement "key removal button/lever assembly", or whatever it's called, for a mid-'80's steering column, floor shift, tilt wheel. I checked Ed's site, number not found, so I assume it can't be gotten from Ford anymore. Anyone have an idea where I might obtain one, without stripping another column?

What does this piece do exactly in the column and where is it located? Is it in this picture?

Good morning, Dave
It is on the bottom side of the column, and depressing the button will allow the key cylinder to be rotated the final position to remove the key. It is, as far as I can tell, only used on columns with a manual transmission (floor shift). The part for tilt or non-tilt appear to be different (different numbers).

Ok, I know what you are talking about now. All my bigger trucks where automatics, but I have a little Ranger that has that aggravating little piece you have to push on the column, and it's a 5 speed from the factory. This might be a junkyard only item, but stay tuned someone may know something more about it.

Hey Doug, Have you tried that new pick-n-pull off of 71 by the airport? They've only been open a month and I've been there a bunch of times. Large selection of 70's-90's ford trucks and very decent pricing.

Not yet, Woody. Been busy at work, and live on the north end of town, so I'm not down that way much. Need to find out if they are open on weekends, too.

I replaced that part in my 1981 manual transmission/tilt wheel, doing it requires almost
complete disassembly of the steering column. I had taken a bunch of pictures along the
way with the intention of making a HOWTO but I got delayed for several months and had
forgotten all of the details I wanted to mention by the time reassembly came around.

Steering columns are very precise & intricate assemblies with lots of small parts, be
forewarned.

I still want to re-open mine and see if I can't adjust something in the U-joint mechanism
as the wheel periodically sticks in place when turning since opening it up.

I'm including the two pages of the exploded view at the end of this post, you may find
them helpful.

About the part you want (your part is 3F527 in the first pic)....

D8BZ-3F527-A Lever Assembly (Steering Column Lock Actuator) Fits 83/88 F-Series, Super Duty & Bronco Available

Ed Olson (www.partsguyed.com) *may* have them (kinda hard to understand the search results)
MSRP $12.95 Ed's price $10.36

Bob Allen Ford Overland park, KS (913) 381-3000 has 2

Wesley Obsolete Parts Liberty, KY 606-787-5293 has 1

Green Sales Co Cincinnati, OH 1-800-543-4959 has 14

OK, exploded view from the Parts Catalog:

The number you gave me above (D8BZ-3F527-A) in my parts book shows to be for an '83-88 A,B,R (Astro van?, Bronco II, etc.(I think))

What I need is E0TZ-3F527-A, '80/ E-F-U 150/350, F(Super Duty) - - M/T w/tilt wheel.

Checked Ed's site, number not found. Checked PartsVoice.com, only one reference, for Dennis Carpenter, which the part is not listed in their online catalog.
Hence, my feeling that it is no longer available.

However, I don't have the other books that Bill (numberdummy) has, so if the part number changed, I wouldn't know.

Where did you get the E0TZ number? Is the part labeled with it somehow? If so, that is an
Engineering number and NOT a part number and as such will not be found in searches. The
D8BZ number I gave came from the Final Release of the 80-89 Parts Catalog which I got
on NumberDummy's suggestion.

A, B R are footnotes for which I could not find any explanation in that section of the book
(IIRC Section 35).

Perhaps Bill will chime in as HE is the true authority here....

Thanks for P/M'ing me to chime in. I'm spending limited time here on FTE (due to health issues), and prolly wouldn't have noticed this thread.

3F527 = Steering Column Lock Lever Actuator.

D4OZ3F527A / Obsolete / Fits 1980/91: F100/350, Bronco & Econoline (misc passenger cars) M/T without a Tilt Wheel.

D8BZ3F527A / Obsolete / Fits 1983/88: A (Aerostar), B (Bronco II), R (Ranger) and misc 1978/91 Passenger Cars.

E0TZ3F527A fits 1980/91 F100/350, Bronco & Econoline M/T with a Tilt Wheel / Obsolete / Last MSRP: $21.55 / Dealer net cost: $12.93.

The ongoing problem is...when typing a part number prefix that has a 0 as the second digit...it can also be typed as an O

It all depends on how the part numbers prefix was entered into the system originally.

This pertains not only the the FoMoCo Dealer Parts Locator System (and dealer websites like PartsGuyEd's), but to PartsVoice as well.

In other words, it will be necessary (as y'all can see) to type it twice. First as E0TZ, then as EOTZ.

E0TZ3F527A =

CARPENTER NOS OBSOLETE PARTS has 1 = 800-476-9653 (PV).

No FoMoCo Dealer, no other obsolete parts vendor has any.
----------------------------------------------------------
EOTZ3F527A =

STEVENS FORD L/M in Patchogue NY has 1 = 631-475-2111 (PV & F).

ALLEN VIGIL FORD L/M in Morrow GA has 1 = 770-960-1208 (F).

MCDONALD FORD in Freeland MI has 1 = 989-695-5556 (F).

KINSEL L/M in Beaumont TX has 1 = 800-816-2894 (F).

PARTS INTERNATIONAL in Farmers Branch TX has 1 = 888-727-0418 (PV).

High Buck! BOB ALLEN FORD in Overland Park KS has 1 = 800-676-0675 (PV & F).

AUTOS VEGA in San Juan PR has 1 = 787-273-3459 (PV & F).

No other FoMoCo Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.

PV = PartsVoice.com / F = FoMoCo Dealer Parts Locator System.

E0TZ is correct, but as y'all can see, correct doesn't always cut it!

Ah, I see (A, B, R) looks like I screwed up and am wrong. Ah, well, isn't the first time and
won't be the last....

Bill: I never came across an E0TZ number in the book, only that D8BZ one. Is the E0TZ
variant nearby in the listing?

Drumfield: A clarification... when I replaced mine, I also replaced the plastic collar that
surrounds the column in that area; IIRC it was the removal of that component that required
major disassembly, merely replacing that lock latch shouldn't be too awful involved....

Thanks for your help and pointing me in the right direction, Bill!

3F527: Text, Section 35 page 7, continued on page 8.

You were unaware, so you didn't know to look on the next page, but...

At least you made the effort to help and by posting the pics from the catalog, others will benefit, too.

I tried to rep you, but got the "spread it around" jazz.

No problem here, Chris. Back years ago, I worked for Hi-Lo Auto Parts (before they became O'Reilly), and all they had was paper catalogs and a cash register, and sometimes I would forget to "turn the page"
