I use PAINT on my computer. Right click the pic, "Open with", "Paint" then where it says "Image" at the top, I then click on "stretch/skew". You can fiddle with the percentage numbers to get it down to a manageable size. FOR instance, it already says 100%, I'll reduce by half to each number by changing the 100% to 50%. I then (click on File) "save as" as the same name it originally was, but add SM after it. SM stands for smaller, that way I still have the original size for my own use. Yeah, it puts two of the same pic on your computer, but after you've uploaded to the site, you have the option to delete the SM version, and still keep the original.

I been tying for several days to get this site to except some pics of some 66 custom cab trim and it just won't do it. Don't have a problem with the size as I have a free on line reciseing (sp) tool that works well. Wonder what's up with that. I got lots of of pics uploaded with no problem in the past.

All I do is locate the pic, right click on it and select "open with" then click on "Microsoft office picture manager". Then when ti pic opens look at the top and see "Edit",
click on edit and on the right hand pane see "compress" & click on it. then click on "web Page" then say OK and your pic is the right size
I guess after thinking about it you will need microsoft office installed on your computer.

Those of you who are having problems uploading pictures, please give us some more
information.... To where are you trying to upload? Gallery? Album? Garage? Direct
attachment to a post?
What is the exact error message encountered and when does it appear? What browser are
you using?
A screen shot would be ideal; if you can't put such screenshots online someplace, send 'em
to tim.lankin at internetbrands dot com
I have read some things here about apparent Java-related issues people are having but only
with vague, ambiguous descriptions of "it doesn't work because of some problem."

I resize mine in "Paint." Left click on your Start button and type in the word paint. Then let your computer search to see if you have the program. If you do, open the program and then click and drag your picture into it. On the tool bar at the top you'll find a resize option. Click on it and then choose your percent of reduction(25% is my favorite). Then drop you r next picture into it and it'll ask if you want to save the first resize. I used to have a black Lab like that one. I miss him, but I don't miss all of the trouble he used to get into.

One place where it isn't obvious is in the attachment upload (for supporters) where the size is too big..
but the message in the attachment manager is 'upload failed'
it isn't clear from that message what the reason is..
eventually I go check the image size to find that is the problem..
but most users would be stuck. (and like has been said, I then use paint to resize.. but then have to SAVE it somewhere first.. now have double images around)
I never had success (coming on 10 yrs now) with the gallery upload manager(drag/drop...), and always uploaded one image at a time.
there are image scalers that can do this work automagically.. that would make it SO much better for us. we don't know.. you have a limit, then scale to the limit.. (photobucket does this)

and, turn on attachments for everyone, it would make life SO much easier.. instead of having to use some other service to upload and link to.
I'll contribute more money to fund the extra disk space (service) to hold em.
remember you WANT users to come here vs go someplace else..
this is THE most complained about/difficult user problem on FTE bar none.
