New to diesels

I'm a first time diesel owener so most everything is new to me.
I've heard about urea and am sort of familiar with what it's supposed to do, but I'm not sure when it was first incorperated, does my 2008 6.4 use this?

The urea started with the 2011 I believe. I got my first diesel about 2 1/2 years ago and I sure love mine. I think yours would still have the DPF. The think that does a regen every so often.

For some folks with a little more knowledge I would stop in here. Any thing you are wondering about can probably be explained a lot more clearly than anywhere else.

No, it does not.
Yours will instead do a "regen" in other words, it will use fuel to burn soot out of the exhaust, and thats much of the reason newer diesel trucks use so much more fuel than the older ones.
