Anyone put a crate engine in their van yet? Any advice as to which crate engines are best or, maybe, which are the only ones that fit in our dog houses?....
I put a 4.9 crate in my 89 E150 from the Ford dealer it comes with a 100,000 mile warranty. A buddy installed the first one but it had a bad head gasket so the dealer pulled it and put a new one in no charge. This one runs great no problems it has about 2000 miles on it. The other builders I looked at would have replaced the engine but I would have had to pay for the R&R. It was well worth the extra money for the Ford engine can't beat a warranty like that.
Thanks for your input. This may seem like a dumb question but I live overseas so I am not familiar with Ford dealers in the US. Do all Ford dealers carry crate engines?
Does your crate engine give you a little more power? If it does, did you also modify the transmission?
I put a crate 300 motor in 'The Oven' my '81 E150 and I had one hellofatime getting that motor in. Despite having a Ford factory service manual, it failed to tell the whole truth. I have made a list of the particular issues involve with the tall 300 six-cylinder motor removal install that is unique from the shorter V-8's.
