Hey guys, I'm replacing the ball joints on my 2000 f-350 and I'm wondering what is a good ball joint press kit to go with?

when i did the ones on my dads 250 i just used my 20 ton press to do them. but i have seen one they recommended but cant find it.

 

I bought a ball joint press for 100 bucks from princess auto up here (similar to harbour freight)

It worked on the one side of the ball joints and axle u joint that I did on my f 250, but it was a pain in the ***, because it didnt come with the ford specific parts of the kit. I would look for one with those ford specific parts (I dont know what they are in specific, but i have seen other kits with them)

 

Ok, thanks for the help guys. I ordered a ball joint press OTC# 7249 and then bought the ford adapter kit OTC# 6731. The press was 100 dollars and the ford adapter kit was 60 dollars.

 

Around my area Advanced Auto has a large assorted set of sleeves that will work with the F250's and it is basically free.
The job requires some short sleeves that some kits do not have.
It is worth the money you can save, but it is a messy job is it is a 4x4.
Go for it.

 

I just noticed your from BC, where did you get the adapter kit from? Order it online or...?

 

Yeah I got the part numbers and ordered it on line off of Ebay. Should be here end of this week coming up.

 

What ball joints did you go with, I suggest xrf balljoints.

 

I've got the moog greasable ball joints. I've never heard of xrf ball joints. I'll have to look them up. Are they greasable?

 

Be careful with the grease fitting in the upper joint. Even though I had mine in all the way and thought it would clear the 4x4 u-joints, it snapped it off later.
I hear there is a "low profile" type that might work, but have not seen one to know for sure. Others say to simply grind some of the head down and that will work.
Just check it out good first if you have 4x4.

 

I just rented a ball joint press kit from Advance Auto Parts. I paid $169 on my credit card, kept the kit for about two weeks then took it back and they reimbersed the full amount back onto my credit card!
Can't beat that with a stick!!!

 

I also rented a kit but from nappa and like said above by others there were sleeves that I had to make to be able to make it work. Buying the kit like you did was a good buy. The kit I rented was like 350 bucks. Thankfully I got to charge it to our companies account!

 

Ok thanks for the tip Ihud. I'll make sure the grease fittings clear. Yeah I thought Id buy the kit and do it myself as up here they charge me 250 a corner in labour to do the ball joints. I got 2 f-350's and a f-550 so If I can do this stuff myself it saves a lot of money.

 

I just did my ball joints this weekend. I "borrowed" a ball joint press from Oreilly's. Had to buy the kit for $120 and when i returned it they refunded my money. Like others have mentioned, it did not come with the right sleeves for the F250, I had to make one with some exhaust pipe i had laying around. After much brainstorming and making the new sleeve it took over an hour for the first side to be out and then pressed in. Once i had it figured out i pressed out the other side and had new joints installed in about 5 mins. The kit I used was EverTough Ball Joint/U-Joint Press set # 67045.

 

If you use the kit from advance auto you need the master front end kit, it comes with the short sleeve needed. I also ised the XRF joints and they were very nice $80 for all four, nice quality pieces.
