2008 F350 Foglight/Driving light repair.

FYI,
Just bought a new-to-us F350 CC DRW. The driving lights were for stargazers, as they were shining upwards badly. I found that the fine threaded machine screw had stripped out the threads in the cheap .10 cent nylon nut in which they were threaded, due to waaaayyyy to much spring pressure on the adjuster. I found a REALLY simple fix to this, to be a #12x1.5" stainless steel course thread machine screw (phillips head), with a different spring (3/8x1-1/8x.041). My springs were made by Century Spring Corp. and have a part # of "C-624". These worked out great for adjusting the aim of the lights, and also to keep them from rattling while driving. Horse***** design by Ford, and you can't get a new bolt or spring through them. You actually have to buy new assemblies. This fix cost me $2.25, and should last forever. I hope this helps.

Ace Hardware has a wide selection of individual springs for sale.

I went to the local "real" hardware store. They had a nicely situated pegboard rack of different springs in the packages. I was surprised that I had never noticed it before. The little packages have yellow on the front of them, and are made by Century Spring Corp. Their website is listed as www.centuryspring.com . I bought the C-624 model which came with 4 in the package. I believe a lot of people have the exact same problem, and don't even realize it. As it seems that I am almost always getting blinded by 2008-2010 Fords' driving lights at night because they are shining upwards, instead of on the road.

I am surprised at my local Ace. They have extremely knowledgeable staff and fairly reasonable prices with a wide selection. Unlike our "real" hardware store as you would say, that happens to have a horrible selection and outrageous prices. They too have a large pegboard of just springs. They amaze me every time I go there since it is a chain store.

I was actually complimenting the "Real" hardware store, which is actually an "Ace Hardware", or "Do-it-Right Hardware" store. They are always so knowledgeable, and have the oddest hard-to-find items on hand. So, I will gladly give them the business when it comes to the smaller purchases.

No it's not a problem we keep it that way so the slower folks in front of us get out of the way . But seriously... I'll bet the average person buys the vehicle and never thinks about the the light shining in that odd direction.
