fenderwell headers on existing exhaust?

I have a 1979 ford f-150 4x4 and have a buddy that has a set of chassis exit and fenderwell exit headers that he will sell me cheap. I want the chassis exit, but hedman says they won't work on vehicles with multiple front shocks which I have (factory quad shocks). I have a pretty new 2.5" dual exhaust system already, so if I run the fenderwells will I have to completely redo my exhaust, since the headers will be outside of the frame rails? Has anyone ran hedmans on a pickup with quad shocks even though it says they won't fit? Thanks guys.

So what I'm askin is... If I run fenderwell exit headers does the exhaust system have to run outside of the frame and exit in front of the rear wheels?

How is the current exhaust run?
I'm assuming you have manifolds now?
Do both pipes run down the passenger side of the truck?

If they do, I'd think you will need something different to work with the fenderwell headers. Maybe use pieces and parts of your current system to build a "new" system for the fenderwell exits.

Not sure if the chassis exits will work in that application or not.

Ya, my current exhaust is a true dual system with both pipes goin down the passenger side. That's why I'm wondering if I have to go chassis exit to save my current system

f-150 exhaust stuff?

On you headman headers not familiar with in outside frame. I run L and L headers. But where are you gonna put the muffler. Mine are set under the cab below my seat area. If you header clears below the front cab mount on your truck you gonna need a pipe with about two 30 degree bends to keep muffler up nice and neat up into cab and not hanging down. then on mufflers probably gonna need a center exit on rear of muffler then exit before the tire. wouldn't reccomend out past tires but can be done but water mud and whatever else will set on you pipe and probably rust it out near the tire especially behind tire. I run mine out before the tire and its time for some new pipe because the elements have rusted out the end of my pipe. mud snow ice and highway crap is hard on anything near the tire especially if your slingin mud and rocks. just thought I'd check in and was lookin at mine the other day with a rust issue.

I'd say if you want to save your current system you will want to use chassis exit headers.

I'm sure you could use fenderwell exits but the pipe would have to cross under the frame and under the transfer case/driveshaft to hook back up to the existing. And it would have to cross under the frame on the other side too.
