My wife wants me to mount a pillar handle to help her get into the truck. I put running boards on but that's not good enough, LOL. If you screw into the pillar with a short screw are you OK or is this a no-no?

I'm going to have to do the same thing. Interested to hear you guys' take on this. I can just hop into the truck, but the wifey and chillens (not to mention most everyone else) has a hard time clawing their way into the truck. I'm planning on building some Nerf style step bars for it this summer, but I'd still like to have a handle for them to use, and don't care for the exterior handles that fasten to the B pillar.

By exterior handles I was thinking of something like this that goes onto the outside of the truck.

I guess they aren't too terrible looking, I just hate drilling holes in the exterior of my truck, no matter what it is for.

 

Thanks Rob & Nate, I don't think I would want that eighter. I know my Dad years ago on a 91 F150 just bought a handle at a hardware store and just screwed it into the pillar. I'm a little worried about messing with the windshiel seal or screwing something else up.

 

Yeah, I have been meaning to look into my options for this as well. My '99 F-150 that I sold had a nice grab handle on the passenger side that hung down below the A pillar. If I could find one of these, I could probably figure out a way to fasten it to the passenger side A pillar. Here is a picture of a similar one.



Not sure what to do in the back seat though, maybe these would work above the door too, I don't know. I need to just go peruse around the junkyard a while... I am sure something will come to me.

Just an idea I had on this, what about finding an old class A tractor and snagging some grab handles off of it? Some will have the long bar that goes along the left side (if you are standing there looking at it) and a whole bunch of options along the pillar. I was thinking about doing the same for my truck, just a matter of finding those.

Just an idea, some aren't that expensive at all

 

Mine has the grab handles on the outside.

Looks only, worthless for getting into the truck.
If you pull on the grab handle, it pulls you in the opposite direction of where you need to go.

My wife points that out EVERY time she gets in my truck.

 

You don't get tired of hearing that, do you Dave? That's like my wife, she thinks she has to tell me something a thousand times before it sinks in. (selective hearing, LOL)
