Why does my truck puke oil?!?

Ok... anyone that has been under my truck knows that it has had a mysterious oil leak since 28k. This fact has just taught me to check my oil religiously. I lose 1qt per 1000 miles.

This morning and yesterday morning it's been 15 degrees. truck is plugged in fires up like a champ. Running Shaffer's 15w40 full synthetic oil.

After 2-3 minutes it will just pour oil off the crossmember, leading me to beleive something on top of the engine is letting it out. Then there will be a strange ticking noise that will go away after about 5 minutes.. Pics are good.. here you go..

I am a 1/4 inch from full up on my dip stick..

Any ideas?!!?

Thanks guys and gals!

Check the dip stick at the oil pan. They are known to leak from the seal at the pan. People lay on the engine to work on things and some how pressure is put on the dip stick. Its shouldn't go down there because of a bolt up higher but they seem to leak at the pan. Let us know, Chet

Any puddles in the valley? If its leaking that much, you should be able to see it. Does it start after the EBPV closes? If so, it could be the actuator leaking.

Is the leak closer to the drivers side, if yes then I would say the oil cooler is leaking. Pull the innerfender and see if it is the oil cooler.

X3 on the oil cooler.
Rubber o-ring type gaskets get stiff after a while and they tend to leak the most when the engine is cold.
