DOOR BUSHINGS

STOP THE DOOR RATTLE!!!
1984 FORD F-150
I HUNTED EVERYWHERE FOR DOOR STRIKER BUSHINGS. I FOUND THAT NAPA HAS A BUSHING KIT, 2 FOR THE DOORS AND 2 FOR THE TAILGATE FOR $6.49 PLUS TAX. IT'S CHEAPER THAN BUYING STRIKERS FROM DORMAN IF ALL YOU NEED IS BUSHINGS.
THEY SAID THEY HAVE THEM FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND MODELS.
FOR A 1984 F-150 THE PART NUMBER IS #675-5144

JOHNNIE T,
YOU SOUND AS THRILLED AS I WAS TO FIND THESE BUSHINGS.
I'M GLAD TO HELP SOMEONE IN THE SAME POSITION I FOUND MYSELF IN.
I WAS SURPRISED TO SEE HOW WORN AND CRACKED THEY WERE THE TRUCK ONLY HAS
49 THOUSAND ON IT. BUT IT SAT EVERY WINTER IN NEW ENGLAND, TILL SPRING WEATHER
ARRIVED.

If you have some plastic water pipe laying around(small flexible stuff), you can cut it and use it for a bushing also.

Do these bushings make a difference in how easily the door fully "latches" when closed? My plastic bushings are gone, and my doors have to be closed fairly hard to fully latch closed. Will new bushings allow the door to fully latch with less closing force required?

Yes, they make a huge difference in how the door closes. I used to have to slam my doors, and usually the first time they never latched. The plastic around the pin really makes a difference.

These bushings are also avail. in the "help" section of other parts stores, such as autozone, advance auto. For some reason with the stock strikers, I have been unable to get the flat washer off. On the NAPA and other aftermarket ones the washer is threaded so its easy to replace the bushing. I've noticed on 79-86 Fords the washer won't come off. My 89 Squire will.

GALENDOR,
THE BUSHINGS MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE. YOU WILL BE ABLE TO PUSH YOUR DOOR SHUT BY JUST PUSHING IT AND YOU'LL HEAR CLICK CLICK. GO TO NAPA AND GET THE KIT JUST MAKE SURE YOU MARK WITH A MARKER WHERE THE STRIKER IS SO IT'S RIGHT WHERE IT WAS. YOU MIGHT HAVE TO WORK A BIT TO GET THE PUSH-ON WASHER TO LOCK TIGHT AGAIN, BUT YOU CAN FINAGLE IT.

GLR,
I WENT TO AUTO ZONE IN FLA. AND THEY PUNCHED IT INTO THE COMPUTER AND TOLD ME THEY DON'T HAVE THEM. I FOUND THEM AT NAPA. I JUST USED A SMALL SCREWDRIVER TO GET THE WASHER BENT BACK ENOUGH
TO RESEAL TIGHT.

"Help" number 38424 made by Dorman. I've got 4 striker bolts in my tool box that I can't get the washer off of. Even tried heat on one. I've got about 8-10 more I want to change and don't really feel like buying the whole bolt. Also NAPA also has the bolt assembly, as well as Rock Auto one of our sponsors. Dorman #38448 $9.83

116, I tried a "zone" in Ithaca, NY. They said they didn't have any - went to the "Help" section and there they were. Same thing at Advance Auto. Some of those parts jockeys aren't too familiar with car parts.

GLR,
I DIDN'T GET THE PUSH WASHER OFF EITHER, I USED A SCREWDRIVER TO BEND IT OUT SOME SO IT WOULD CRUSH AND LOCK AGAIN. YOU GOT HEAT YOU SHOULD HAVE NO PROBLEM BENDING IT BACK SOME.
DID YOU TRY PUTTING IT IN A VICE AND TAKE A SMALL FLAT BAR ON EITHER SIDE AND WALK IT OFF A LITTLE AT A TIME?

I bought the whole striker bolt plus bushing plus washer assembly from JC Whitney I think. On these the washer is threaded. I haven't yet put them on, because a professional mechanic/body man told me the new strikers wouldn't help, the doors were hard to close because they were "just old". I suspected this was bull, but it was enough to cause me to hold off on replacing them.

Looks like some kind of large star-shaped driver is required to remove/install the strikers on my '86 F150.
